P0015 Cam sensor chk engine

Hi,

I have a 2009 Kia Borrego, original owner, 120,000 miles on it. No real major issues except now. I tow a small trailer with it. It is a V -6 and I do the oil changes about every 5,000 miles. I recently changed to the synthetic blend for high mileage oil.

About a year ago the CEL light came on and it was the generic code for the overhead Cam sensor. I changed the oil and it was about a quart low. The light has been off until now. I had the oil plug gasket replaced a week ago, towed my trailer to a camping trip and parked the car for about 5 days, then towed it home and the light came on when I was almost home.

Took it in to my mechanic and with further diag, they have determined that the two exhaust sensors, the easy reach ones, are out of range and to replace them. They canít tell if the ones under the manifold are also bad without taking off the manifold cover.

I am trying to make the decision to replace the exhaust ones for $600+ and see if that fixes the issue. The car runs and sounds fine. The mechanic is telling me that there could be a concern if I have to replace all 4 that there could be a problem with the engine. He is saying I should just buy a new car. Mind you, this is not a Kia mechanic. If I have to replace all 4 sensors, it will cost $2300. Ugh.

Any one had issues with the Borrego motors and such? I have worked on cars before, I just donít do it now.

Thanks.
