Should I buy a Borrego?

Hi Everyone. Iíve been looking for a new SUV and I see a Borrego pop up every once in a while. I am considering buying one, but I wonder if itís a good idea since they were only made for one year. The price is right that is for sure. But surfing the web I see a lot of transmission issues (my biggest concern), parts issues (hard to find), and dealers that donít know how to work on them. Any truth to to any of this? Also! Most important question, V6 or V8? Thanks for your time!

The Borrego was built from '09 to '15 but only delivered to the US in '09. I found brand new ones in Canada as late at '15. They were popular world wide. AC compressor bearing failed under warranty is the only issue I have had in 140k miles.

The transmission for the V8 is a ZF 6HP26 which is used in the Ford F150 pickup. How's that for a recommendation.

My preference is for the V8. It gets a long term 18.6 mpg in everyday rural driving and is capable of over 25 mpg carefully driven on level roads.

I love my V8 and would buy it again if available new.

Getting parts might be a problem, they are expensive but the dealer will import from Korea anything you need. The transmission on the V8 is the same one used in many luxury vehicles (Jaguar, BMW) and also in heavy usage pick ups like some Fords.
I tow my 6000 lb travel trailer with ease, 7 passenger, great on gas, cheap on insurance....I wish I could buy a new one!!! Kia decided to build SUVs for soccer moms with the Sorrento, unfortunately.

Thanks for the replies so far...they are hard to find..and I have yet to find a V8 for sale. All the ones by me are V6s. Even those are a minimum 2-3 hour drive away just to look. I know I came across a thread with transmission issues! I’m just worried it was the V6 model ones which is probably what I might get since I cannot find a V8. I’ll keep looking. Thanks for the info so far!

I’d love to just see one in person and just drive one!
