Need a new CD player

The one in my wife's Borrego overheats and stops after a short time.
Are there any sources other than the factory or wrecking yard for a replacement - or any other solution to the overheating problem anyone has come up with?

LOL, so what you're saying is that the problem is/was common enough that they set up a regular "remanufacturing program" to deal with all the dead/dying ones, huh?

I'll look into it - thanks for the tip.

Hii Bob C
If you have a USB input your CD player going wrong is a blessing in disguise
I do not have much room convenient for CD storage so I investigated and researched USB memory stick play. Memory sticks have become so cheap and small it is pointless using anything else.
Personal CD albums to USB for Kia
If you have a windows computer with CD Drive you can transfer 120 full length CD albums with all the information on them The Albums are recorded as folders so can be quickly selected and then played as you would a CD.
If you have not got windows Media player loaded There is a free download use only from windows update site.
USB stick needs to be formatted on your computer. It must be blank and have no be installed software filing or safe on it or may not function correctly onto a 16 GB USB memory stick at the best quality your player can use.

Select window Player and insert disc to be copied.
All being well disc will start playing.
Press RIP settings You will see Format select MP3 then you will need to set Audio Quality 320Kbps.(some people hear no benefit above 180 in car but USB can be used any where)
These settings will remain.
Now plug in USB stick and return to Media player.
You will notice your USB stick drive has appeared on left.
Now this is the point where it is all set and you can record each album onto your stick in 3-5 minutes. After 2, stop and check all works with full information showing in car display.
Now press RIP CD and the album will be copied to Media player.
When finished Select Album to left and recorded album will show.
At this stage Double click on Album details appear name and artist if not there you can edit to insert.
Press Albums again on left then.
Now look up top right there are three buttons Play Burn SYNC Press SYNC
and your USB drive appears.
Now drag album to the box below by holding down left mouse button on your album drag and drop by releasing finger.
The album details will appear.
Now just below top right play button there is Start Sync Button press and music is transferred to USB.
TO repeat leave in stick and just go back to inserting disc and press Rip CD and new album will be copied to Media player.

I am in process of loading 32GB stick and looks like I will get at least 300 hrs of music on it. Best to stay with 16gb so you do not run out of Folder Selection.
The formats you can use are in hand books I am using Sandisc 32 GB blank usb stick with metal case and that is working perfectly.
Lower MP3 rates will give poor quality Play back so if using down loads on line etc check your quality is MP3 180- 320Kbps
Have fun If you are not used to it, take your time when you get to the second album recording you will kick yourself for not doing it sooner.
It is your responsibility to observe any copyright laws for personal use should be OK.
Any self recorded data will not play to good standard if not originally recorded at an equivelant of 180- 320 mp3 or wma

Each Album or selection you record is filed as a folder
Each folder selected on UVO( button on right marked folder) and details appear on screen
You then select tracks as with CD on steering wheel.
Only by trust worthy makes of USB from reliable dealer would not buy on line or from markets.
16 GB sticks are best you will not run out of folder recognition.
The data is easily removed and re recorded on computer.
It may say in hand book do not leave plugged in you may loose you USB memory but I have always left mine plugged in as I understood the copies usually from on line are cause of loss through static and my genuine Sandisc is metal clad.

Too common a problem CD players over heating.

Jeff

Yeah, I already have a bunch of music recorded to one of the USB thumb drives that is only about 1/4" longer than the metal part of the USB connector itself. It does work very well. The fact that the CD player doesn't work the way it should just bugs me - I'm a little OCD that way...

I didn't know that. That being the case, maybe Chevy can still sell me a remanned CD unit to replace the dead one in my Suburban. I'll look into it. Thanks!

I believe our CD player has gone bad-when you try to play a CD it simply says "MECH FAIL" which I'm assuming means mechanical failure. I'll call up the dealer today to get a price on one. My daughter will riot if we can't play her frozen CD and judging by JeffGs post it sounds like getting a new CD player would be easier than trying to play it via USB stick.
