just bought 2009 Borrego ex 4 x 4 4.6 v8

Hope someone can shed some light on my issue. I just bought this rig with 50k miles on it. The problem is I hear a knocking/tapping sound behind front drivers tire. It sounds fine on startup but after its warmed up for about 15 minute the sound shows up. I took it to a mechanic and he used his stethoscope and says it's top side between first and second cylinders. I've gotten under the car and to me it sounds like it's inside the oil pan. Another mechanic told me it could be the bearings rod or main and that I should get rid of the car. Second mechanic thought I Should take it into Kia and have them check it out. Perhaps there's a tsb about this. I did find the tsb on oil control valve. The car hesitates at low rpm, seems off timing, possibly surges. But once I hit 2500-3000 rpm it goes like a top. And there are no trouble codes. I'm worried that my new purchase could turn out to be a VERY big bill.

Take it to the dealer and pay for the diagnosis.
Most regular mechanics do not know these vehicles.
I believe this engine is the same as the 2008–2012 Hyundai Genesis.
Look for TSBs for that one too.

Don't know about the knocking/tapping sound, but the hesitation from a stop or slow roll may be fixed. See my reply here:

Update
Ok, so took the Borrego to the "best" Kia dealership in Washington. Put it on a trailer and pulled it with my trusty excursion. Another reason not to sell the monster I tell my wife. So.... The tech that worked on diagnosing has been there for 14 years. He listened to engine after fully warmed up when noise is present told me that he believes the timing chain has stretched and that a tensioner may be broken or at least compromised and if I feel the need to fix it, it will take roughly 24 hours plus parts. Total about $3500. BUT in his opinion, he would just live with it and save the money for later if it really starts clanking. I could probably save a grand by having my local mechanic do the work. I'm feeling relieved that it's not an engine bearing for sure. Anyone have an opinion on this? Will the engine keep going for a while or is this the early beginning of costly repairs? Thanks.

That's too bad. What kind of warranty did it come with? Mine just hit 75,000 and runs like a top. Still loving it. The V8 is smooth and the ZF transmission shifts nicely. Hopefully you can get the noise figured out. Perhaps that is why someone traded it in.
