Possible Borrego Purchase?

Hello,
I have been stalking the forum the past week or two checking out post. I have recently come across a 2009 Borrego and really like the vehicle minus perhaps the over sized head rest. I am assuming many of the reviews I saw where ppl questioned the ride quality were posted by folks who never road in a truck. I found the ride on my two previous test drives to be very comfortable compared to me 2005 sport trac.

Anyway I am thinking about purchasing the one I found, but had a couple questions was hoping the community might help with.

1) I noticed when doing search on parts on Autozone, Rockauto and alike that there does not seem to be that many for purchase through such locations. Are most parts require ordering through Kia dealerships? And have you all found most repair work requires it be taken to a dealer?

2) Has anyone in the states by chance purchased a 2010 or 2011 model Borrego from Canada and had it brought over? If so could you comment on the process? I had read that for a few other Kia models that Kia Canada was not very helpful in providing the needed paper work to indicate that the vehicles meet US Safety standards.

And if anyone wishes to include their $0.02 about their experience with the Borrgeo in general please feel free.

Thanks

Can't help you with the Canadian import issue. Since the 2009 Borrego engines (both the V6 and V8) were the same engines that came in Hyundai Genesis sedans, I would think engine parts would be readily available on the aftermarket. So if you find a mechanic who has worked on the Genesis, they could also handle the Borrego. The one thing I have not been able to find is shock absorbers. I can't find any shock manufactures that list the Borrego on their replacement list. I don't need them yet at 66,000 miles. I have found brake parts from other than the dealer. BTW, the V6 and V8 engines are still being used in the Hyundai Genesis.

Borrego Purchase

I have been really happy with our Borrego V8 Limited. We bought it new in 09. We have only had 1 issue (brake light switch recall) that the dealer took care of without any problems. I researched the mid-sized SUV (not crossover) market thoroughly before making my decision. No other SUV on the market, then, and even today can meet all capabilities of the Borrego. If I had to replace my Borrego today with something new, I don't see anything better. 23/24mpg hwy, 7500# towing capacity, 5yr/60K bumper-bumper, 100K power train warranty, <$35000 out the door cost new. Nobody even came close.
Just my opinion,
Robert

I did end up purchasing one though I had thought I would want the V8, but after driving the V6 model it has more than enough power. The towing limit on the V6 should cover anything I will need to tow for the time being.

Have driven it a couple hundred miles already in a few days helping a friend move so had to go back and forth a few times. The over sized head rest has grown on me already. Found while driving back home at night if I put the seat back just a little further I can lay back and it supports my head rather well.

Dropping it off in a couple days to have a very small dent pulled wont require paint work for that which is nice. Also getting it polished to address some small scratches and will be picking up some touch up paint from the dealer. So I can address a couple remaining spots I think will be left mainly a couple small rock chips on the hood.

Picked up a new head unit and sub to replace the stock HD non-infinity system. I will get around to the door speakers at a later date they should be fine for the time. With the sub supplying the lows they will mainly be only for highs and mids so for now it will be fine.

Do think I want to upgrade HID as I found the lights in the evening a bit lacking. Will need to do some research online and find some nice kits to look into purchasing.

After that think I will be fine for a bit though I would like to find a nice bull bar for it. Where i live I end up dong a lot of driving on the highway or back roads and deer are more than happy to step out. I have lost a couple cars over the years already so anything to help prevent that is good.

Oh and might have to paint the cladding black I did the same thing on my sport trac looked a lot better then the gray. That can wait though as it is not needed right this moment.

Thanks for the replies folks.
Take it easy
