New tires for my Borrego

I bought a 2009 Kia Borrego at the end of November. This past Wednesday, I had a flat tire on the driver side rear wheel. The AAA technician blamed dry rot for the crack in the sidewall of the tire.

I'm planning on investing much of my tax return in quality tires, but I don't want to spend needlessly. The Michelin LTX M / S 2 looks well reviewed, and I found them at a local dealer for $200 a tire.

Do you all have any suggestions for me? I live in Indiana, so I get a decent amount of winter weather. I live very close to work, so the only real wear and tear they'll see is when I go north to see my parents once a week or so, about 30 miles round trip, mostly highway.

I put Michelin latitude tours on about 20,000 miles ago. I'm not crazy about them. They don't seem any better than the stock tires that came on it.

Michelins are great tires, I purchased Hankook dynapro atm for my Borrego about 3 years ago, wear like iron, great all around traction.

The Michelin LTX MS2 are great tires. I replaced the stock tires after less than 20.000 miles... they handled horrible on wet pavement and snow. I just ordered a new set of LTX MS2 tires - and put about 50.000 miles on them. The 70.000 miles warranty is a marketing gimmick, but I'm completely happy with 50.000 miles.

I currently have the Yokahama Geolanders (17) on my 2009 Kia V8LX. I like their performance 3 seasons (both wet and dry) HOWEVER they suck in winter! Here in the northeast we get lots of snow and ice and driving with the all seasons can be scarey! This will be the last winter I drive without snows. My previous vehicle was a Sorento (2008, RWD/4WD) not the new model and I noticed the same performance. Once I switch from my Michelin Lattitudes (great all season tire) to Blizzaks, my performance with the Sorento was unbelievable! I drove most of the winter in RWD mode. I highly recommend the Blizzaks for winter (but you must switch them over in the spring) as they are soft and will wear fast on dry sandy pavement

I'll second mtbikerejg's opinion on the Blizzaks. I have a 2WD V8 Limited here in upstate NY and with the Blizzaks the RWD only Borrego handles it just fine. For the non-winter months I put a set of Cooper Discoverer tires on.

I lucked out and snagged a set of 17" factory chrome wheels off ebay for $220 total shipped to my house, so i I have the Blizzaks permanently mounted and just swap them myself.
