Front Brakes rattling...

OK, my front brakes have been rattling for sometime now. I talked to the KIA Service person, and he said it was the brakes shoes are loose and float, and that is what I am hearing every time I hit a bump, pothole, etc... it is really loud driving down the street, and hitting bumps.

It is driving me crazy!

Any thoughts on if this is really normal, or something I can "fix"??

what is their age?

they should have springs holding them tight (allow travel towards and back from the rotor), but not much of play up/down.
Could be the springs got rusted and do not hold tight enough or pads are worn.

OK, after asking at the stealership on multiple occassions, they just gave me the response "they pads are free floating and will sometimes rattle over bumps..."

I changed my brake pads this past weekend, 68K miles, and lo a behold, a caliper bolt was missing! that is what was rattling when going over bumps and hitting pot holes...

problem solved... still think the dealership has a bunch of idiots working there!

strong words, but sometimes I would agree with you...
I wonder how come no one ever checked all of it. Including you, sir.

Where did you find replacement pads, if not at a dealer?
