iPod docking area in Forte photos?

I was just curious if anyone has taken a look at the booklet for the Forte, available at Kia dealerships; or I even believe on their current advertisements for the Forte on television; when they show the iPod, it is standing upright, in what looks to be some sort of docking area, or some such? Anyone seen this?

I was curious if the SX actually has a docking area; or at least a designated iPod area; or if the images we're seeing on the commercials, etc. were just staged to make the iPod look all nice in the tray area, standing up; but can't actually do this? (A co-worker brought this to my attention when he mentioned having seen the tv commercial, and then looking at my car, and where I had my iPod.)

Just a random question! Thanks!

I read something in the manual that mentions a special Kia plug and to not use the standard iPod plug??? Any truth to this? I haven't tried mine yet...

emtownsend. Re: iPod CABLE

Apple's connector cable has just the USB plug -- which works OK -- but control is limited. The Kia/Apple connector has both USB and mini-jack plug that work in tandem and gives you complete iPod control. The special Kia cable costs around $35 (+/-) which, at the moment, is a bit pricey for my use.

I've been loading up an 8GB flash drive and listening to my d/ls that way. NB: If I leave it connected it picks up where I left off, if I unplug or change modes it starts over again, from the beginning. That can be a tad frustrating.

As far as a docking area, it kind of looks like there's something that not only plugs into the electric utility port but also supports the hand held device. Of course, that's mere speculation on my part.

My 5th gen iPod (80Gig) will not work at all with the Apple connector/USB only. I get "error" after a couple minutes. The 1/8" plug is my only choice now. My dealer forget to mention the need for a customized cable. You'd think that they would include a $5 cable if it is a custom cable AND not to mention it says on the dash "ipod" and USB. Technically they are correct, but... a custom cable? Oh well. I'll get one of course but it is the only gripe I have right now. I LOVE this car otherwise!

I have uploaded a picture in the photo gallery of the screen with my Ipod plugged i w/Kia's cable. Got the Rondo last week, the cable Thursday. My husband found the Kia cable on Ebay for less than I had heard most pay. I want to say about $25? I know someone on another board mentioned it too.

emtownsend, You're gonna WISH it was a $5. cable! LOL

agilpwd, you're right, pick it up on ebay, WAY cheaper than the $35./$40. they want at Kia dealerships.
