Question steering problem

hi. My wifes Lia Cerato TD 2011 model has a small amount of play developed in the steering wheel. The free play is about 5cm of steering wheel movement left to right and at the end of the free play in either direction it will clunk like a bad knuckle joint but all the joints are ok from what I can see. Being electric steering rack I dont know if its the rack or if its something else. Any ideas will be great. tia.

I would get it on stands with the front wheels off and while someone moves the steering see if its something as simple as a bad tie-rod end.

Not tie rod ends. its sounds like the free play and knocking is somewhere between the steering rack and the steering wheel. I can move the steering wheel to make the sound and move back and forward in the free play with moving the wheels or steering rack.

just for info I found the fault. its a flexible steering coupler in the steering motor on the steering column. Common faulty with kia and Hyundai. The part from China is 7.00 but will source a local supplier to save time. part number 56315 2K000FFF. cheers.
