Spectra5 2005 -- Engine Light On

Hi.

My engine light is on. Performance seems normal, gas cap is on, just had an oil change week before last. 114K miles. Obviously, I need to have someone look at it.

My question is: in this case, am I better off taking it to a Kia dealer, or is this the sort of thing something that my trusty non-Kia specific car repair shop can handle? They're great, but I've never needed any major work from them on this car, which I bought used.

Thanks.

My first suggestion would be to visit Advance/AutoZone/O'Reilly and have then check what codes have been stored...
Then post them in this thread...

Please tell me you have replaced the timing belt on your engine and if you can't please replace it as soon as possible...
If the timing belt breaks or the teeth get torn off....the engine will be trashed...

I have changed quite a few and we drive 3 Spectras in our family.... Quite reliable...
These cars can go 300k miles "if" maintained properly...
Your mechanic should be able to do any repairs...

We will be glad to answer any questions
Dave
