Just fixed a 2008 Hyundai Accent that was overheating.... Turned out to be an out of spec thermostat...
The thermostat is rated for 198 degrees F ...Never seen one this high in temp... The old one was allowing the temperature to rise to 206 degrees and that threw a check engine light... The car would run fine IF the air conditioning was on (both fans running) ...

Then I fixed for the same woman a 2008 Ford Explorer XLT that needed rear brake pads...

Then I got a call from her grandson on his 2011 Turbo Hyundai Sonata 2.4L GDI... It was spewing gas under the hood... It has a bad "high pressure fuel line" going from the high pressure fuel... The line end attached to the HP fuel pump started leaking... The pressure within that line is over 600PSI... Tightening it made it worse...so I ordered it from Ebay for $22.00... The Hyundai/KIA dealership wanted $49.00... so that will be repaired in 4~5 days....

Tomorrow I'm working on a 2004 Honda Accord V6 with leaky valve cover gaskets and spark plug gaskets...

I did get the body work done on Mary's 2008 Hyundai Sonata, but still have to rotate tires, attach the driver's side front fender on the bottom (both bolts snapped off when I removed the fender to gain access to the front door hinge bolts... It really looks good and I'm sure she'll like the improvements...

Just not enough time being retired
Dave

Daughter had today off from work and came out to visit, along with a dentist appt. She has been doing mostly short 12 mile drives and has now reached 2,500 miles since doing last oil change to synthetic 10w30 Valvoline high mileage oil. I only had to top up 6 ounces of oil to bring it to the full mark on the stick. VERY happy for only that much consumption on first use from conventional oil, with an engine now at 128,500 miles on it! Oil still looks very clear and will have her go to 6k miles before the next change to be done.
NOTE: It is still a hassle having to go thru all the steps needed to open that darned HOOD!...LOL

Well, here it is DECEMBER already! With the Spectra now residing in a much more suburban area with lots more traffic to contend with, my daughter has decided that she wants full snow tires on her car. After her spin out/partial ditching from sloppy country road last year, she wants to feel more "secure" among heavier traffic there. Prices were rather high at places near her, as she tried to get the task done on her own at over $100.00US/tire! I did some calling to my sources and got her 4 Cooper Evolution Snows at $75.00 ea. And will get them mounted on 12/12. Total cost will be right around $380.00 US! Daughter is happy and making the trip out here for that kind of savings, plus then her still good "all seasons" will be here for us to store for the winter for her as her apartment has NO ROOM to do that!
And the Spectra is still "rolling along" just FINE with no concerns!

Well, the SNOW TIRES are mounted on the Spectra. And daughter very happy for price and the aggressive pattern of the tire compared to the "all season M&S" tires she's had on it! We have bare roads right now , and she called to say that they ran well and were quieter than the last car(98 Escort) with full snows!...HAPPY ENDING!

Well, We heard from the daughter when she got home from work yesterday. They got hammered with Lake effect snow (we got nothing). She reported that kia is starting up well in the near 0f weather(parked outdoors), and that the new snows are doing a great job of gripping the road with few to no issues of control problems...Her work parking lot is well plowed, but is always like a sheet of ice, so she says that the car slides a little but easily handled! Out on the roads she says she feels much more confident with the handling of the new tires and has had to do "some maneuvers" to avoid other cars that were having handling "issues" from the weather! She says that it's a big change from RURAL driving scenario's to more URBAN driving and watching out for much more vehicular traffic!
