Hello everyone, my 05 spectra needs to have the plugs and wires changes. What brands do you recommend? Is the engine shroud pretty easy to remove? I'm doing it myself.
NGK are good plugs for the car. Make sure that you gap them properly. For wires, perhaps whatever mid-tier set the parts store has. No need for top of the line. Make sure you put some dielectric grease inside the boots of the wires. Also be careful not to crossthread the new plugs while putting them in. The engine cover is held in by four 10mm bolts on each corner. Very easy to remove.
Can't be any simpler....
Remove four 10mm bolts holding the engine "trim" on the top of the engine...
Remove (one at a time) the rubber spark plug wire(s)...Use a deep spark plug socket, a 3/8" 5" extension, and a 3/8" ratchet...to remove the old spark plug... Check the gap on the new spark plug(s) (use NGK Brand) and if OK put the plugs back in in the reverse order...
Maybe a half hour to replace them all...

Thanks for everyone's help. It was as easy as described. It took me a few minutes to remove the first wire and spark plug (and thank god I had a magnetized screw driver head). But after that it was smooth sailing. I used Denso wires and NKG GForce plugs that I gapped (as best I could) to .44. It fired right up, the only real difference I notice it that it idles much better. The old plugs looked pretty good and NO oil on them!
