2017 Kia Sedona Earns Top Safety Honors from IIHS » AutoGuide.com News
confirmed officially by KMA

IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 4, 2016 —The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has awarded its best rating possible, Top Safety Pick+, to the 2017 Kia Sedona minivan. Already distinguished by its elegant design, exceptional comfort and utility, the 2017 Sedona is offered with available Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB ), a system that helps to avoid forward collisions by warning the driver of an impending forward collision and then applying the brakes if no action is taken. The addition of AEB1 qualified the 2017 Sedona for the elevated 2016 IIHS TSP+ rating.

“Buyers often place safety at the top of their list when shopping for a new minivan,” said Orth Hedrick, vice president, product planning KMA. “The IIHS is a highly respected safety authority and we see the 2017 Sedona’s TSP+ rating as validation of Kia’s dedication to its customers and to the continuous efforts to build better and safer vehicles.”

The top rating is even more impressive in light of the new testing standards implemented by IIHS this year. In order to achieve the TSP+ rating, vehicles are required to earn “good” ratings in five crashworthiness tests—small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side impact, roof strength and head restraints—and an “advanced” or “superior” rating for front crash prevention. The addition of AEB boosts the Sedona’s front crash prevention rating from “basic” to “superior.”
The TSP+ rating improves the Sedona’s previous rating as a Top Safety Pick and complements the minivan’s 5-star crash rating awarded by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration in 2015.2

Well, at least it doesn't look any different than my 2016. Would have been a bummer to be outdated so soon!

KIA's website now includes building a 2017 Sedona, but dealerships out in the PNW do not have any info on ordering one. Strange.

Main update that I can tell is the AUTONOMOUS EMERGENCY BRAKING option included on the tech packages of the SX and SXL. This stops the car when it is going under 25 mph and assists the braking when the car is going above.

Oh and the 8 passenger seating appears to be a separate option and not forced upon you if you wanted to get the tech package on the SXL. It appears that the SXL will come standard with the slide n stow seats, and purchasing the tech package GAINS YOU the Nappa leather lounge seats.

Saddly, EX owners STILL cant get the upgraded radio.

Price appears to have gone up about $500-$700 US.

SXL Prestige Package+$1,000
Made for the Sedona that seats up to seven this package features luxurious innovations like:
First-Class Lounge Seating
Dual Power Sunroof
Premium Nappa Leather Seat Trim
Premium Headliner

Package will delete these features from Sedona SXL:
3-Passenger, 2nd-row Seating with Fold Down Center Console
Slide-N-Stow® 2nd-Row Seats
Heated 2nd-Row Seats

This package is required because of the current color selection. To remove it please, select another exterior and interior combination.

I noticed that as well. The current SXL 8-pass Tech is the default, and then you add the "Prestige" for ottomans and sunroof. Makes sense.

2016
SX 8-passenger Tech: $40,995
SXL 8-passenger Tech: $42,595

2017
SX with Advanced Touring Package: $41,695
SXL with no options: $41,900

So, in 2016, The $1500 got you largely cosmetic changes:
-chrome wheels
-chrome door handles and side sills
-different fog lights
-mesh grille
-"stainless" rear bumper trim
-wood" steering wheel and interior trim (actually kind of nice, for fake stuff)
-center console sliding tray

For 2017, the difference is only $205, which makes the SXL a no brainer, IMHO, if you want the Tech stuff like radar cruise.

Apparently no cosmetic differences for 2017, which is nice for those of us in new vans that we don't want looking outdated already...

So what's the verdict, GoHawks? You still on the fence with the Pacifica? Done your test drives and worked on numbers yet?
