That's an odd solution, since the LED strips are like right there in the car already.

I guess you can rewire the same way as described by mletchworth, but I think it would look weird with both the LED and the regular DRLs on at the same time. A modified US spec model with just the LED strip on would look much cleaner.

I will pull the relay for the factory DRL so that just the LEDs will be on.

So did pulling the relay work?

Here's my solution. LED positioning lights come on with the ignition now.

Update to that original thread: I just soldered the wires this weekend to replace the crimp connectors. It's permanent now.

I always wondered this too. Just what do "positioning lights" mean anyway. I have an SX and I think the car is beautiful with just the LED strips on during the day. I'm not really a fan of having the back lights come on too. I wish Kia had just implemented the LED strips as DRLs on 2015+ Sedonas. It gives the van a more upscale look.

I was just in Korea last week, and saw tons of Carnival vans (Sedonas). In Korea, and maybe Australia too, the LED strips are DRLs and they are quite a bit brighter than the positioning lights. Their headlights also don't have amber reflectors on the side. IMO they look way better than the US version.

Has anyone looked into this:

exLED All New Carnival OEM DRL Activation Modules

I don't have a Sedona, but just pointing it out. I've ordered stuff for my Cadenza from exLED in the past, and they make good stuff.

The site above is their Korean international website. There is an exLED USA website - but the customer service, responsiveness, and shipping timeliness from exLED USA is terrible, and I recommend staying away from them.

More items for the Carnival:

For anyone wishing to try and wire their position lights, check if your headlights have the LED's in the first place. Kia seems to have made 3 different versions of these headlights (based on the parts lookup), the "jewel" LED (SXL's, some SX's), regular LED (some LX's, some SX's), and non LED (L, some LX's).

My 2017 LX for some reason came with the non-LED headlights - there are no pins for the LED's on either the headlight or the connector wiring harness, just blanks where the pins should be, like in mletchworth's excellent DIY (maybe because it was a former fleet vehicle?, who knows).
