What does the wire to the power steering pump do?

The power steering pump has a wire connected to it. What does it do?
I am thinking it sends a signal to the computer to help up the idle to deal
with the added drag from the pump under load?

I don't know. I found a Mando made (OEM Korea made) from Advance Auto Parts online for $90. With coupon, I snagged it for around $60. Really happy.

Changing of it made the engine runs so much better than before. It's much smoother and when AC is on, its runs better, too. It's kinda amazing. I think the age of the P/S pump can affect the engine performance overall.

There is YT video on how to change it.

Changed about 5 years ago

About 5 years ago, ours started "kicking back" when turned, and made some noise. I replaced it without a video. Real headache, until I pulled the plastic panel in the area.
The new one is a lifetime warranty item from O'Reilly's. If you join their points club, they keep track of what you bought, and that helps if you forget your receipt.
