Korean Government investigating Hyundai KIA recall

The government of South Korea is investigating the handling of Hyundai/KIA engine failures...

A friend of mine has a rebuilt salvage 2011 Hyundai Sonata that at 144k miles the engine failed... Hyundai of the US is going to replace the engine N/C... without requiring oil and filter history... They know they are under government watches and looks like they are gonna handle the problems without questions...

Glad my wife's 2014 Optima was built in Korea...

Kia just announced they are now recalling all of the 68,000 vehicles in which they did engine replacements because of a potential problem with the routing of the high pressure fuel line which could lead to fire. Kia originally recalled 618,000 vehicles, replaced engine in 68,000, a greater than 10% failure rate, something unheard of. Plus, they are not done since they are doing the software updates in hopes of heading off any more failures. The numbers are obviously worse with Hyundai but it puts the whole corporation into a very bad light. Manufacturers get worried at anything approaching a 1% warranty failure rate on engines, <10% must be driving them nuts.
