New vehicle warranty deductible

Two weeks ago I purchased my first Kia. I bought a 2019 Kia Sorento EX. One of the reasons I was interested in Kia is because of their 6yr/60k, 10yr/100k warranty. I loved the car I test drove and purchased it. When I was signing the paperwork, the employee handed me a paper to sign which stated that any covered warranty work has a $100 deductible. I never heard of such a thing. I purchased about 10 new cars in the past (but this is my first Kia) and this was never the case. The employee explained to me that there are too many "fussy" people who bring in their Kia for nit-picky reasons and it's an attempt to discourage numerous visits. I thought that statement was outrageous and I also think a $100 deductible is also outrageous. If i'm paying over $40k on a new vehicle I don't think it unreasonable to expect a perfect car that will hold up throughout the warrantied period. For you experienced Kia owners, is this normal and has always been the case or did he pull a fast one over on me? Any suggestions of how I can have the deductible removed?
Thanks for your advice/suggestions.

There should absolutely be no deductible. That sounds like a dealer rip-off.

Not sure of the legality of the paper, but you should not have signed that one. I bet they would not have cancelled the process and lost a sale if you had just got up and started to walk out. I would contact KIA corporate and, if they don't/won't help, check with an attorney and see if the manufacturer's warranty over-rides the dealer's.

If worse comes to worse, you should be able to take it to any other KIA dealer since that form sounds like a dealer-specific document.

BTW - It's 5 years/60K and 10/100K.

Good luck.

This stealership actually did you a favor by proving right at the get go that they are criminals. Now you know for certain that they would pick your wallet clean every time they touch your vehicle for service.

So now it's your move. First get that illegal paper you signed cancelled. If this outfit won't do it voluntarily, then tell them you will call Kia Corporate to lodge a complaint against them and open a case. And I also strongly suggest that you find a good, honest independent shop to do ALL of your future maintenance on this vehicle. Use the required maintenance chart in your owner's manual as a guide for what things are actually required. Alternatively, you can DIY some or all of the required maintenance yourself, as a number of us here do. Keep all receipts, regardless of who does the work.

Doing this will NOT affect your warranty in any way, and this crooked outfit will still be required to perform all warranty and recall work at N/C to you. Don't let these guys use you as a punching bag.

I agree with Pnoman on NO deductibles during the Kia warranty, We own 2 Kia Sorento's and while we have had 1 or 2 warranty issues, NEVER had any deductibles. I would suggest you talk to the dealers General Manager about this. Dealers make their money on service work. Sounds like the dealer does not want to do any warranty work as they don't get much money from Kia for warranty work, and this is their way of getting more money for that work.

I would let Kia Corporate know what the dealer is doing, but don't expect much from them. Getting a lawyer involved is a waste of time.

Also consider if this is the way they treat customers, you may want to take your vehicle to a different dealer for warranty/service work anyway.

Further "IF" the dealer does not reconsider this practice, I would tell the dealer you are going on social media (facebook/twitter) and let other potential buyers of this unethical practice know your experience. If you do go on social media just explain your experience and nothing more.

Echo everything said above.

Also, if they won't remove it, I'm sure they have a social media presence where you could bring it up nicely, see how many others have been swindled...

Keep in mind, dealers get PAID BY KIA CORPORATE for any warranty-related work.

After some thought, I have some additional comments.

1. When talking to the dealer I would advise them you are going to describe the events which took place on this forum and let future buyers know who this dealer is and what happened to you.

2. Any prospective buyer of a Kia product who does their due diligence will look at this forum prior to purchasing a Kia product to see what current owners are experiencing (good and bad).

3. Tell us all who the dealer is so we all know to watch out.

Thanks

Thanks for your input and information. I will follow the advise and demand the deductible to be removed. The dealer that did this is Kia of West Nyack. It's in Rockland County, N.Y.
