Has anyone used Kia online service manuals

I have always been a total 99.9% DIY person for all my vehicles/boats/motorcycles. EG: ECM tunes, engines, drive train, AC ,electrical ,etc. However on my 2015 Sorento SX 3.3 I feel like I'm flying blind to repair anything. Kia's approach to renting the service manuals online instead of selling them is a bummer. I have hard copy or soft-copy manuals for all my other vehicles, but I guess that's a thing of the past.

My question is has anyone used the online manuals and how detailed are they. For example are there wiring diagrams detailed to a specific model and option that will identify connectors, locations, harness routing, wire colors, splices and ground connections. Is there a listing of DTC codes and wording on what conditions actually set a code. Was thinking about paying the $20.00 for three day access and look myself, but thought I'd ask if anyone out here has an opinion.

The online manuals at the Kia Global Information System (KGIS) contain all the information you listed and more. I paid for the 72 hour access for my 2017 Sportage and downloaded everything I could. After my time was up I organized it all into my own service manual. There are a few problems with the translations from Korean to English, but nothing you cannot get past.

Try this: https://www.tradebit.com/filedetail....-repair-manual

I downloaded the 2014 version from this supplier (tradebit / 2manualrepair) and it is very thorough. Costs $15. It's actually 2 manuals - one for the 4-cyl and one for the V-6. Each are about 1,600 pages. Both are included. I also downloaded the 2013 Soul manual for my wife's car and use it for reference often.

Downloads as a PDF, so you can stick it on a thumb drive and take your laptop out to the garage.

Thanks for both the replies, I am going to go for the KIA 72 hour rental and the $15 Tradebit. Both for $35.00 not that bad. The old hardcopy manufacturer service manuals used to be in the $100's to purchase.

Had opportunity to work on an old GMC G20 van once, Intermittent ABS light, Intermittent blower cutoff and intermittent Cruse Control cutting off. None of the problems were related to the others. Accessed online manuals ( $10 for 24 hrs) printed all three sections, found corroded connection to one ABS wheel sensor, burnt connection on blower relay harness and vibration sensitive contact in brake switch to cruse module. All 3 electrical problems were remedied for only $10 plus on hand supplies and tools.

As stated I'm an avid DIY'er and actually enjoy reading a service manual. Most likely will be looking at a KIA GDS after reviewing the manuals, some of the foreign knockoffs are looking good. For the cost I'll probably wait for the first time it's needed prior to purchasing.

Quick update.. The Tradebit is what I would call a mechanical service manual. It contains locations, identification and pin-outs of electrical parts and sensors. Removal/installation of majority of components. Detailed power-train engine and transmission mechanical information. However it only shows block diagrams of electronics. They do not provide wire routing, wire colors, splices or connections. Nor provide a list of the Diagnostic Test Codes (DTC's) for ECM/TCM/ABS/HVAC etc, failures. They do provide some GDS testing, module programming and component activation testing. I'd rate it very good for mechanical repairs, OK for high level failing component identification, no help at if parts swap dosen't fix it.
