SP-IV versus Type 4 Transmission Fluid

I stopped at my local dealer to get a price on transmission fluid for my van and asked for SP-IV fluid and the dealer said it didn't exist and they had Type 4 Transmission Fluid. Is this the same or different than the SP-IV fluid recommended in my owners manual. I have a 2011 Sedona 3.5L with 6-speed automatic transmission.

It is the same thing. I have heard it referred to as SP-IV, but the bottle says Type 4. Hyundai uses the same fluid but calls it something different, Type M, I think.

Yep, SP-IV was replaced by Type 4 then updated to Type 4-M. I've used for warranty repairs, haven't seen any issues with it.

Thanks for the insight. I will be changing the transmission fluid when the weather gets better and don't want to grenade my transmission with the wrong fluid. I just rolled 60,000 miles and plan on many more!
