Maybe just me, but I feel like mine is low: 2016 LX AWD; active eco always on (although I haven't noticed a difference either way); 30/70% city/highway driving miles; generally open window(s) vs running AC; averaging 21.1 MPG from last 50 fill-ups.
I realize that's right about where it's rated at, but figured it would be slightly higher since I drive more on the highway? Just wondering what other real-world MPG's you're all getting, and/or what you're doing to get the most out of it.
Several years ago I read a study that showed that driving today's vehicles at highway speeds with the AC on and windows up results in better mileage than with the AC off and windows down. Windows down results in significant drag due to wind/air tumble and buffeting through the windows. Increased drag results in the need for more throttle to maintain a specific road speed (increased fuel consumption).
The open windows and/or top are killing your mileage. There are other possible contributors - old air filter, cheap oil, not using cruise, 'patting' the gas pedal, etc., etc. Use that AC and put a new cabin air filter in.
Close your windows. Kias don’t have great mileage, but you do yourself no favors increasing the wind resistance. A/C uses less fuel than having windows down n
SX AWD typically 24 - 26, which is almost 20% above rated. It can do 26 or better if all highway driving, but it idles like it's got a hole in the gas tank.
Thanks all! Forgot to mention that I don't usually go too hard on the throttle, manually cruise right around 75-80 MPH on highways, and replace air filter with something in $10-$15 range about every 10k.
For now, as much as I like the fresh/open air, will likely just start using the AC/blower and cruise control. I'd definitely be much happier in the ~24 MPG range like you guys with the SXs, and definitely good to know it wasn't just in my head.
My 2019 EX FWD gets 31 mpg on the highway on average. I rarely use sport mode and do not use eco mode. The worst was 28 mpg when gaining thousands of feet of elevation over hundreds of miles and the best was 35 mpg on the return trip. I did check the accuracy of the mpg indicator versus actual gallons used and found it to be within +/- 1 mpg. Around town it gets about 27mpg. Very happy with the fuel economy. My previous car was a 2012 Sorento with same motor and that was 5 mpg worse.

[/QUOTEI had a brother in law who used to drive and 8 cylinder Ford pick up truck and towing a trailer with camper on bed of truck, could get around 28 mpg all the time. He figured his gas a lot different than i did though. Best I usually get for ave is around 25-27 mpg and that is by an 82 year old driver. Glad you can get that great mileage.
