I am getting close to that time where I will need to consider new tires. I don't like the lower profile tire that came on the stock 19 inch rims. I would like to fill the wheel well more and enjoy a little more comfort from the taller tires. Anyone here have any recommendations on what I should be looking at?
The problem is if you end up with a larger diameter tire, your speedometer's gear will have to be calculated and changed to compensate for the new diameter otherwise you'll be going faster than the speedometer readings. The other thing to consider is how will the bigger diameter affect the electronics as in engine tune and especially transmission shift points? (I'm really not sure if this would be a issue).
Take care
It's not just speedometer, it's all the other stuff like stability control, autonomous emergency braking etc... that is tied directly to the factory tire size. For all that stuff to work correctly, you need to maintain the exact same overall diameter of the stock tire / wheel package.
To achieve a taller profile in the sidewall, you would need to step down in rim diameter and select a tire to keep that original overall diameter. Also taking into consideration the size wheel required to clear the brake hardware.
Is the shop not able to update this info in the onboard computer? The EX model, for example, has a larger overall diameter on its 17" rims thanks to taller tires. So the EX fills more of the wheel well than the SX.
for the SX you can step down from 19 inch to 17 inch wheel, and use a P225/60R17 tire to get the correct overall diameter. I am not sure of the exact sizes going from 18 to 17
i went 1 size taller on mine, no noticable difference in speedometer until you get to around 60mph, then you're still only going 1mph faster, at 80mph only 2 mph faster than stock size.
also turn your steering wheel all the way to the left, check both wheel well clearance. turn it all the way to the right and check both wheel well for clearance.
I have used these for replacements Twice! I love them, I never had a better all around tire! I got to about 40k miles on them, after the orig. tires wore out, only looked 1/2 Worn! On my 2011 Sportage before I traded it for the Sorrento. Best Bang For The Buck! IMO > https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tire...er=17&cameFrom=selectSize&partnum=36HR7AMRT43
