My 2016 Sportage Eco HI-Boost

Hi. This thread is for my Sportage project for my wife. Currently car has only 20000km on it and is annoyingly slow 136hp (2.0crdi aut 4WD). Hopefully it will be over 260hp within next few weeks and maybe I can get consumption down like 20-35%. Really don't know that much of Sportage or KIAs in general, but have been doing few diesel engine "upgrades" in the past . I think the power part is easy (I have been wrong earlier ), but don't know about that tranny. I hope to get the car on dyno within next two weeks. Original turbo has now bigger wheels inside it and there are some other things done with the engine, but my tuner hasn't played with modified Sportages before, so let's see how things turn out.

As this one isn't the GT-line, I have tweaked it a bit. It has now 20" lightweight rims (17" as original), but tires are bit heavy as I wanted those wheel arches to look "full" and went 245/45-20 instead 245/40-20 which would have been the "original" size. It also have side skirt extensions to prevent stones hitting the body, new LED lights here and there (for example 200W curved high beam bar burried inside front bumper), evil looking dual exhaust, but not anything that you can buy from KIA or even aftermarket. Also put Eberspächer in it as winters are cold here and changed original 7" screen to 8" from GT-line. I also painted it from here and there.

Can't post any pictures as it is not allowed by forum rules as this is my first post here. Maybe I can post few teasers later.

The car is full of fingerprints and dust, but you get the idea. The dual exhaust and lower lip are a selfmade merge from Sportage original and Skoda Octavia RS. I painted those rear lights dark and now the red bar between upper lights actually lights up too and turning signals and reverse light are bright leds. As we have fog light mandatory here and it needs to work even on blizzards I kept it as it was (as led won't heat enough to melt snow), but to enhance reverse light beyond just putting a very bright led, those turning signals have also white 6W COP leds on them to make more light for reversing and it seems to work great. Also got rid of the rear wiper 'cause I have never really understod the meaning of it. Usually I just unplug it on my cars, but with this one I just got rid of the damn thing completely. It's not for looks, I just hate it.

As for now those exhaust tips are dummies and the car is still using its original single, but that's going to change soon.

Still have a lot to do before car is ready.

Here's some pictures of the rear lip facrication. Had no idea if RS Octavia's lip could ever be merged with Sportage original, but parts were only about 200e (lip + 2 SS tips), so I decided to take the risk. Using Volvo or MB parts looks would be even better IMO, but parts only would have been 1ke.

First primer and little sanding before final primer and painting.

Before piano black.

Rear lower light tuning.

Cheap Chinese COB led with yellow turn signal (center) and white 6W DRL light (which I'm using as reverse light).

Led glued in place. It was nearly perfect fit and needed only like ten second modification.

Painting all rear lights dark. I was planning to do this anyway, but those COB leds were really ugly looking without tint.

You live where it snows and you do not understand what a rear wiper is for?

My dad started a little collision repair and paint shop back in late 50s and I have been painting cars since I was ten years old. I do have my Master's degree in Biochemistry, but never took that route. Now I'm in process to teach my 16 year son to do this job, but I hope his is smart enough to choose another profession. Actually he has been doing a lot of this car's mods. IMO learning this profession isn't a total waste of time, even if he wants something else to do later. Don't know how it's over there in the States, but in here yougnsters stay at home playing Playstation until 25-30 and get money from sosial security (which is good in here) and mommy is making food and washing their clothes...

Sometimes I just feel old... Hmm, maybe I am.
