replacement tires

I finally had to get around to installing a new set of tires. I had a little bit of tread left before the wear bars, but we are going into peak rainy season here in Central Florida, so I went ahead and replaced them now, so I don't have to worry about stopping distances in the rain all summer long.

I originally was going to just get the OE crugen as a replacement, as they wore well and lasted a bit over 55,000 miles, but I was also not impressed with the increase in noise / howling over the lifetime of the crugen tires. They also were not riding well in the past 20,000 miles or so, and exhibited some negative attributes when it came to handling as they wore.

Instead, I shopped the local market for sales and deals and ended up getting Goodyear Eagle RS-A2 tires on a buy 3 get 1 free deal, at 144 per tire. I also did a full alignment during the tire installation so that did add to the cost, along with lifetime rotation , and full road hazard protection, so that did bring my costs up somewhat, in the end, I do have peace of mind and free service on the tires until they are worn out.

What I have taken away from this since getting them, they are vastly quieter and smoother than the crugen were. Time will tell if that lasts over the long haul.

ADAM714 and clayfeet like this.

Thanks for the input and mini review of the Eagle tires.

I went from factory installed Nexen CP671 to Sumitomo Encounter HT and am very happy with the change as well.
Replaced Nexens with 40K miles on them, they were not worn out but were getting there and grip and ride quality were unacceptable to me.
Reasons I went with Sumis were price, great reviews, a need for a hwy as well as gravel roads capable and somewhat longer lasting tire.
