Front Windshield Molding Question

I have a new 2019 Sportage EX with sport appearance package (probably not relevant). On the front windshield behind the rear view mirror is some kind of cage enclosure / molding. Does that contain or do anything? I don't have an auto dimming mirror or homelink or anything so it just confuses me a little what it does?

It's where I normally put my toll tag sticker and I thought it was going to be annoying because of the space it takes up but the new toll sticker I got this year was much smaller then in years past and it all worked out.

I'm just curious. Loving this new 2019 so far.

May not understand your question but pretty sure cameras are there for the lane departure warning system.

I was able to pop it off and the only thing I saw was what felt like a braided electrical cable running from the headliner to the windshield.

I'm guessing it's an antenna?

It is a sensor for the auto defog system. Detects temperature and humidity level on windshield so it knows the dew point and can turn on defog automatically.

Thanks!

It sure takes up enough space. Were headed into the summer months so I suppose I'll find out how well it works in about 5-6 months.
