Today's vehicles are filled with copious amounts of interesting technology.

Considering when your vehicle is out of manufacturers warranty:

Do you feel you will repair or have repaired the technology items that do not affect
the direct safety or drivability of your vehicle,

For example, if your lane departure system, parking sensors, and similar systems
fail to operate, will you just ignore them or will you get them repaired?

(Being over 60, and having lived the vast majority of my driving life without these systems, I am
leaning towards ignoring repair.)

I am curious how others feel about these fairly new technologies.

I could care less about lane departure warning. However, the backup cam and parking sensors are safety sensors IMO. Backing out of a parking spot in a crowded parking lot can be a safety issues to your car or others approaching your vehicle.

Regardless, the cost to fix would be a major decision point for me. These sensors probably integrate into a common processing unit. If that is true and it goes "south", that could be a big chuck of change to fix.

This is a major drawback to keeping a modern vehicle over 5 years. Another one is, by not getting another new vehicle after about 5 years, you are missing out on the latest tech developments. One reason I buy KIA is the 5/60 warranty which just about covers the payment period without having to spend $1200+ on an extended warranty, so then I trade it and get another one.
Anyway, the tech failure issue is a big one. If you don't fix anything that goes bad, you're killing your car's value, and sooner or later you will sell it or trade it in. Even if your plan is to keep it long term, it may be that this becomes unfeasible when you begin to have electronics problems. This can really wreck your car replacement strategy because you're forced to fix it in order to get rid of it - then you keep it longer, exposing yourself to more expenses, trying to get some value for your repair outlays.

Car enthusiasts generally don't like all of the new technologies and find reasons to dislike them. Techies can't get enough of the new technologies. I happen to be both so there is a constant battle within me. The technologies I most often use, in order of importance starting with the most:

1. Android Auto -- I won't buy a car without it
2. Backup camera
3. Cross traffic alert
4. Drive modes
5. Parking sensors
6. Blind spot monitoring
7. Collision avoidance
8. Stability control

My wife doesn't like all of the beeps, but I'm fine with them as on rare occasions they are helpful. If you don't get in an accident, you don't have to worry about repair costs. The lane monitoring just doesn't work extremely well and it is turned off. I would like to have adaptive cruise control and memory seats.

Since this is an SUV, and not a race car, the technology is important to me. My other car is a sports car with limited technology for the purist in me. It does have Android Auto, backup camera, drive modes and stability control, but nothing else -- and it is a 2018, newer than my Sportage.

By drive modes do you mean: eco, smart, sport, comfort ?

I've found comfort is the only transmission behavior I use.
Eco and Smart lug the engine (smart just never smartens up for me)
sport stays in 3rd most of the time and never gets to 8th

Do the 2019's have an 8 speed transmission?

I thought the drivetrain was the same as my 2017 but I may be wrong.

I echo most of rvoll's choices except for the following: #1 Carplay! No stink'n android for me! I moved drive modes to the bottom. Pretty much just use eco. Never have had an issue with getting up to speed or lugging issues.

He has a Sorento not a Sportage. In fact the Sportage also doesn't have "smart" and "comfort" modes.

You just described me and my best friend. We are both old timers. I came from a tech background and love the benefits it provides. My friend has 11 vehicles and they are all oldies but goodies. Any thing beyond power windows throws him through into a spin.
