Scratching steering wheel leather?

Does anyone else have this problem? Since I don't need to have my keys out to drive my Sportage I have noticed that when getting in to drive the keys in my pocket are catching on the bottom of the leather wrap and scratching it up.

Does anyone else have this problem. My wheel is all the way up for my driving position, but I still hit it. I'm a large framed guy, but I've never had the problem before. Never had push-button start or a leather wrapped steering wheel either...

Are you sure it is your keys and not a ring?

Might be a belt buckle?
I scratched mine by accident with a hang finger nail.

I don't wear rings or any other jewelry. Just a wristwatch on my left wrist (far side from wheel when entering).

It's definitely the keys. I feel them dig into my thigh every time I catch it particularly wrong. I wear non metallic 5.11 brand web belt every day. No sharp edges, besides my "man gut" covers my waistband.

You will need to use a leather treatment on all leather surfaces, including the steering wheel. I like Griot's '3 in 1 Leather Care'. I've been using regular Griot's leather Care for many years and the new '3 in 1' is better. Anyway I found a much more severe scratch in mine than you have and simply using the Griot's and driving the car has now made it hard to find. Not sure how it happened but I'm blaming the dealer's service dep't. since I found it after they had to work on the moon roof side seals. Anyway this product does not make the wheel or seats slippery so its safe to use.
I use it mainly in warm/hot weather - vacuum out the car including the seats, do the steering wheel, shift knob and boot and console box lid first then do the rear seats, headrests and finally the front. Then simply shut the car up and let it sit in the sun for as long as you can, at least an hour. Do not buff anything - it will have that clean new look but not shiny. After some use the leather will take a light gloss but that is removed by the next treatment. I like to do it at least twice a year.
The other thing I really like about griot's is it has a leather smell that lasts.

I've had the leg seam of my jeans rub the wheel while getting in and out.

'Never had push-button start or a leather wrapped steering wheel either... '

But you have a tilt wheel - I think this could solve your problem. You also have a power seat so you can lower it a bit. Together with putting the steering wheel all the way up when you are going to get out will make it easier for you to get back in.

I'll have to get into the habit of the tilt wheel like some cops do. Unfortunately my seat is already all the way down.
