I had a Mazda 3 with the stick up screen and loved it. It kept my eyes higher and on the road. It may not look great, but if you are really into driving, it works great. I like the way things look, but if it comes to a car, I value the function of a high screen much more than how it looks....

Hence why I wonder if anyone from Canada as had this done on their 2017 SX.

My car has been running remarkably well up to this day.
Kia Canada does NOT acknowledge the problem. I just found this out after blowing the motor on my '17 SX Turbo with 41,000 km. I hard balled them to take it back.

My 17 SX is at 40,000 km...fingers crossed it doesn't blow up. It's been running fine so far.

Thanks for the info. Potentially good to know.

Don't sweat it, it's nothing to worry about.

No turning back now. We're at the dealer and they're doing the update as I type.

Garage

Had mine done yesterday. No issues before. None after. Now my warranty is extended because if it.

Win-win for me.

Here's a fresh story (3/11/19) from Michigan, about a 2012 Optima burning up - and it had the knock sensor update already applied! So in this case, the fire must have been from something other than a bearing failure:

"...Rose took his vehicle to the Kia dealership in 2018 for an engine bearing recall and other repairs. No engine replacement was done. On Feb. 9, Rose’s vehicle had a “knock sensor detection system upgrade” that is part of Kia's Product Improvement Campaign and intended to warn the driver prior to catastrophic engine failure that can result in stalling and engine fires.

“I was reading more about the issues other people are having and why there’s an issue with the recall,” Rose said. “Even though my car has the same motor, same year and same model as other recalls, my particular VIN is not on the recall list. Yet it caught fire. I’m not real pleased.”

He applauded the Center of Auto Safety for pushing to get Kia to do a “full-on recall and not pick and choose.” "

The guy appears to have LOVED his car too! It's a shame that all of this is going to taint the brand, when Kia was on the verge of a BIG "break-out" IMHO, with all of the recent positive J.D. Power quality publicity, and such. :-\
