Check Engine Light: POO1000 Intake Camshaft Sensor Actuator

Hi all,

Has anyone some experience with this?

Yesterday, on the second start of the day, the Check Engine light lit up (coming in solid amber) in my '17 Sportage LX, 2.4l engine. The engine was also revving high in idle, coming in at ~1600rpm, even after being well warmed to normal operating temperature. I went to the local Kia dealership and they hooked up the ODB and found that the alarm was POO1000, the intake camshaft sensor actuator. They cleared the alarm and gave it a short test drive, without the light coming in again. I took the car and then late in the day, after about more 5 starts, the check engine light came on and the engine was revving high.

Our friends over at autocode.com credit these conditions for this particular alarm:

- Dirty Oil
- Low engine oil level
- Faulty Intake Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid
- Intake Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid harness is open or shorted
- Intake Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)

My ride will be in the dealer's service parking tomorrow morning when they arrive for the day, but in the meantime, I was wondering, has anyone had this issue in their Sportage or other late-model Kia product?

I would be looking for a new dealer if they just cleared the code, did a short test run and sent you on your way. Of course The check engine light came back on it does not come on without a reason, the cause needs to found and then replaced/repaired.

@jester 17: I should have noted that I went to my dealer yesterday, where here in Canada many if not most dealerships do not open their service department on Saturday at all. Those that do, like the local Kia dealership here in Owen Sound, specifically accommodate simple oil changes only. Actually, I was pleased that they broke their planned schedule, looked at it, determined the fault, confirmed that it was not compelling, took the car for a run and without the alarm coming back in, handed it back in less than 30 minutes.

I actually just had this same problem but with different symptoms. My 2016 Sorento SX with 10,000 km CEL came on and I lost power when under load like climbing a hill or accelerating quickly.

Same code, P001000

My dealer found that the oil plug in the e-cvvt was not installed correctly causing oil leak into e-cvvt cover saturating armature and brushes.

The tech removed it, cleaned it all up and replaced. I have had no further issues. Hope this helps.

So this condition has existed since new? not assembled correctly?

The service manager told me that there was a seal that somehow had become twisted and allowing oil to pass.
I am not sure if this was from new and slowly accumulating until it affected the e-cvvt or if it just suddenly failed.

The only thing different that occurred leading up to this was I had the vehicle in some -37˚C temperatures on a trip to Southern Alberta a few days before.

Something to keep in mind if anyone else experiences the same symptoms and gets the P001000 code.

As it turns out, the sensor and actuator have failed. Unfortunately, these pieces don't normally break so due to their robust operating history and the factory churning out the Sportage as fast as they can, these parts are back-ordered and not currently stocked in Canada. The issue has been escalated as far as can be done so in Canada, and the parts are going to be lifted from the Kia assembly line in Gwangju Korea and express-shipped with an ETA at my dealer of January 9th.

so they car is disabled until repaired? if so did you get a loaner?, not that it's any of my business I guess....

That's a bummer.

You could PM @cobra259 for availability in the US , or if you have the part numbers search for them at Hyundai dealerships and if you find them twist your dealers arm to get them.

That all depends on if you have a good loaner car while you wait.

Hi Everyone

I just bought a used Kia Sportage 2017 LX in an auction and since yesterday the car is having exactly the same issue MJROBIN mentioned. The car have CHK ENG LIGHT ON and the falt code is P0010. I'd like to know if you have the parts number. Also does anyone know if this issue would be covered under warranty, considering I bought it on an auction a month ago and I am second owner ?
