Question 2017 Kia Sportage EX Radio w/ Nav Missing SiriusXM Traffic

I bought my 2017 Kia Sportage EX with Premium and Tech packages. The first day, I had traffic, but the next day nothing. I called Sirius and they said the radio did not have traffic. I explained that it had it for a day. They said to contact dealer. Dealer said it has traffic and to bring it in to check. I had to fly out of town for a week. When I got back, traffic was working again. Called dealership and was told they called SiriusXM to fix it.

Now after two weeks of traffic, no more traffic notification. I called Sirius and they kept telling me that a 2017 Kia Sportage was not available yet as it is still 2016. I hung up and called back. Different person and I am told there are no 2017 Kia Sportages. I said I had one and to check my radio ESN. They said that it said it was a 2016 radio and not a 2017. I said, ok, but can you turn the navigation on? They said the radio is only a radio with no other features. I said that the SiriusXM data was working and they said it was impossible.

Long story short, anyone else having issues with traffic updates on the 2017 Sportage Premium & Tech package radios?

Interesting. I also have the 2017 EX with tech and premium package. I haven't seen anything about traffic on my screen. Checked my window sticker, owners manual and multimedia manual. Can't find any reference to Sirius traffic.

We have had some issues with Sirius traffic at our dealership, It's was always Sirius that was the problem, just like it sounds now.

Go to settings on Navigation and you should see a toggle to turn it on. If on, TravelLink will show traffic delays, road work, and crashes on it. On the nav map, you should see green lines for good traffic, yellow for slower than average, and red line for bad traffic. These line overlay highways and large roads. It will also have yellow caution signs with logos saying if it is construction or an accident affecting traffic.

So I go to the nav settings and sure enough there is a toggle for traffic. However, it states that I have to contact Sirius to get it activated. Was the traffic feature supposed to have been included with my three month trial, which, by the way expires tomorrow , or was it an option I had to sign up for with Sirius from the getgo?

It is part of the 90 day trial. Sounds like it is more than one radio with the issue.

Same trouble

I got a 2017 Sportage SX just under 3 months ago. The Traffic used to work fine and then it disappeared. The navigation still works. I chatted with Sirius who suggested that my radio was incompatible, which made no sense. They then suggested I bring it to the dealership. The dealership looked at it and said I needed to contact Sirius as it was their issue. I contacted Sirius again who "refreshed" the link but still no traffic. They said I need to bring it to the dealership. Meanwhile, the nav set-up and all the options that I can find seem to show that I should be seeing traffic. I don't know how to resolve this.

TxSaintBear,

I am having the same run-around as you. SiriusXM doesn't even have their systems updated to show 2017 model year. I even sent a picture of the screen saying to contact SiriusXM customer service to activate traffic to their Twitter account, but no response yet. Was on hold for 45 minutes before my call "dropped" with a rep looking into it.

Spoke to Kia CS and rep said she had another caller recently with same issue, and that Sirius should be able to activate the traffic with the radio ID or the VIN, and that they always seem to have issues with them.

Its a bit ridiculous for SiriusXM to not have their systems updated after this model has been out for MONTHS.

I also am having an issue with the TrafficLink (movie, weather, etc.) dropping. I refresh the signal, it comes back for a day, then stops again and says "No information available."

And after my last call with them where they "refreshed" the signal and put me on hold for 45 minutes, now everyday when I get in the car, it pops up "Subscription updated. Press enter to continue." Annoying as hell.

*sigh*

I went to the dealer (Capitol Kia of Austin- highly recommended).

They did everything to get the navigation to work. They kept it for a few days and gave me a loaner so they could test it out. Sure enough, the traffic worked again for a few hours, but disappeared. After several calls and interactions with SiriusXM and Kia support (who also called SiriusXM), it was decided to install a new radio. It had to come from Korea.

The new radio didn't get traffic at first, but then started to work. We took photos and videos of the traffic with the radio ID displayed in case it stopped again. When I called to transfer the radio to my account, I was told it didn't have traffic capability. I told them to check again and it was "suddenly" available.

Long story short- go to the dealer and ask for a new head unit. It appears that a batch of radios were not set up properly somewhere in the supply line for SiriusXM to activate the traffic. I was told that it was a checkbox not checked on a spreadsheet sent to SiriusXM and no way to fix.

Kia Tech Support has this tracked so you should not have issues. (Just upset that it did NOT come with Apple Car Play. Still trying to figure out how others have been successful in getting the update by calling Kia CS. I've had no luck.)

Good luck BrianToy84 and Taggert!

This may be different on the Sportage compared to the Cadenza I'm currently driving, but Sirius provides the traffic info for the Cadenza as a subscription option only (separate from the music). When Sirius does the occasional free music periods, my traffic colors show up. When the free period ends, the traffic disappears again. I don't use the Sirius music and have asked Sirius if I can get just the traffic, they quoted me $7/month, which I didn't think was worth it. It was hard communicating with the Sirius agent about what I wanted and someone else had to come on the line and explain the traffic data element to me.
