0-60mph performance

I have always been disappointed with the Rio performance.

But I have noticed lately with the air on, that its acceleration off the line is horrendous. Like I can bike faster LOL.

So yesterday I had my friend help me test 0-60mph on a desolate road.

I was appalled to discover my Rio is getting about 13.5 seconds 0-60mph average! So now I am wondering if this is normal, or is my car a lemon?

Does this seem normal for a 1.6L lx+ auto?

See attached screenshot that i got from: Kia 0-60 Times & Kia Quarter Mile Times | Kia Optima, Sportage, Rio, Spectra, Sedona, Sorento & more 0 to 60 stats!

and this: 2015-2016 Kia Rio 0-60 times acceleration, 1/4 mile, 0 to 100 kmh

this says 9.5 sec: 2014 Kia Rio 5-Door | car review @ Top Speed

so ya... you aren't doing so hot. do you have eco mode on? if you have an automatic, you can set it to manual shift mode, and don't bother shifting, it will shift when it redlines, that should get you a bit more speed.

for 1.6 in auto its normal.
Also, it depends how you take off. Do you brake-torque before launching?

ECO and ESC/TC must be off. As for manual shifting - maybe it helps... I am not sure.

The thing is, I don't really know how accurate these numbers are. They are just some websites database, where their get their data, who knows....

I would love to see another real kia owner clock their car.

I definitely don't have econ mode on, made sure of that, and it always shifts at redline when I punch it. I feel like my take off, off the line is the biggest problem...

I do not brake torque. Though I do have traction control on, but I don't see how that effects it unless it actually engages based on slipping. And the Rio couldn't spin its tires if the fate of the world depended on it.

Brake torque is when you add gas (increase RPM to about 2000-3000) while still holding brake (car is not moving).
This aids in "take off", kind of launch control...

TC/ECS - this may limit power of the engine when in 1st gear. Maybe not in Rio, but some cars do employ it in order to avoid excessive wheels slippage.

I can check my Elantra for comparison tonight. Last time if I recall correctly, it was something around 10 s. So yours sound just fine to me.

Tell you what, I've got a 1.6 Rio Sedan with the 6spd auto as well. I get out of work later in the evening so I'll test mine out and let you know what I get. I've been looking for a proper reason to clock it!

Well I messed up and accidentally pressed the start button on my phone's stopwatch app twice and then quickly pressed it again so the time was off but I got just a hair over 9 seconds without holding the brake and with stability and eco turned off.

I am disappointed with the Rio performance within reason. Like I mentioned before... my 90hp Tercel felt peppier off the line. So I am not looking for a sports car, but for a sub compact, the Rio performance disappoints me. But maybe mine is broken...

Thanks so much man!! Before I start telling my dealership that my Rio is a dud, I want to actually confirm it is :p I just did a few more runs an it is consistently around 13 seconds.

You need to come up with better instances of the car not performing to it's stated capabilities. If you go in and state that the car has a sucky 0-60 time, they're going to laugh and tell you that you should have bought a sports car, not a Rio.
I would laugh at them and tell them they are retards, because 13 seconds 0-60 is 3 seconds slower than other Rio's. 0-60 is comparison to other cars is not my concern. But poor 0-60 performance in comparison to cars of the identical model is a relevant concern whether the car is a Rio or a Ferrari. So they would laugh and say "If you want your car to perform on par with other Rio's you should not have bought a Rio?" Because that is the ludicrous logic you have presented me with lol. :x

You've not stated any problem with the car other than it having a slower 0-60 time than you think it should, now have you? Can you even find an official 0-60 time that is stated by Kia? Did you ever think that it may be you that is causing the problem? You've already admitted you don't know about power braking ( brake torque), you're running it with the ESC on, and who knows how much crap you've got in your car. Not every Rio is going to have the same 0-60 time. A big factor can be the driver and whether or not they know what they're doing. The 0-60 is a performance statistic and not everyone or every car ( even identical cars) will always have the same time. Your car shouldn't be that much slower than other Rios but again, it could be just be you.

I never I said I dont know what brake torquing, is, it said I didnt do it in my tests.... As for other rios just performing different, I have zero evidence that supports this, and what can we go on besides the evidence? Every website, youtube run, and even tests by users in the forum show 0-60 times of about just under 10. Until I see other times that also vary like mine, I will assume mine is an anomoly.

Any argument you have about 0-60 varying by driver is tossed out the window since I am comparing my time now, vs my time one year ago....same driver.

Secondly, I do it in a replicable fashion.

you'd think a 'performance' issue would also show some other signs - low mpg
This is MUCH more difficult to base an argument on than 0-60 right? There are WAY more factors in play that can make this vary.

0-60

I have the 2012 kia rio5 6 speed manual trans I have 60,000 miles on it. Runs great. I have never really tried to bang out 0 to 60 official I should be able to get in the 8ish time if I rapped it out. I read online should get 8.1 sec 0 - 60 and that was with an automatic
