Engine Coolant Colour

Does engine coolant colour matter? The coolant in my reservoir is blue but all the brands I've looked at are yellow.

Any recommendations?

Looking at the right container?
Not the container of window washer fluid?

Cooling fluid can be yellow almost green or a kind of red.
I personally never saw blue.

But from a Boss of a autorepairshop.
"Yes blue is also possible".
"The color is caused by an addition to the normally colorless cooling fluid".
"However, the color mostly indicates the type of coolant".

Bowie97, just FYI - different countries have different coolants colors. Why? No idea.

For example - in Poland, where I lived over 25 years, you can find green, BLUE, and red. No yellow, though.

Can it be blue in KIA? Sure it can.
Besides, sometimes perception of color may be affected by light, color of the container itself...

^True, but it does matter because like here in the USA different colors are associated with different cars, and their recommnded fluid.

GM: Orange Dexcool. (not to mix with other coolant at all costs)
Honda: Had red for a while.
Most imports: Green, or a varient.

I have seen yellow as well. Again I would say get the correct stuff from your nearest dealer if you are able too.

I know for us Kia's factory coolant is a green color.

As long as it is Ethylene Glycol, regardless of color, it is ok for the system. The factory Kia coolant is a very dark green color. It lightens up some when mixed 50/50, but is still considerably darker than typical green coolant.

Toyota used to use a red ethylene glycol.
Land Rover and BMW used blue for a while.

I bought Kia coolant and it was greenish-bluish while in concentrated state and went blue after dilution.
Using Supertech Universal coolant now which came pre-dilited and is yellow.
