Auto trans filter ?

Problem with auto trans(4 speed)
I wonder if you would be so good as to help me with a problem I have with my Kia Sportage?
Kia Sportage 2.7 v6 automatic

This is at the moment an intermittent fault, but I'm afraid of it turning to a constant fault.This fault only occurs after approx. 20 kilometres of driving.

HOW ITS BEEN FOR 4 YEARS;
When I approach a junction or roundabout and decelerate as normal, as the car slowed down, I could see and hear the rpm/gears changing down; ie from 4th, to 3rd, to second, and obviously if stopping, then into 1st.

The problem is this;
In the same situation as above,
NOW it changes very quickly from 4 to 3 to 2, then back to 3 and back to 4 ! Now the dangerous bit;
If I stop at the junction, it sometimes stalls the engine; indeed today it stalled whilst driving slowly round a roundabout, as you know with no engine theres no power steering, and an accident nearly occurred by the time I'd gone to neutral and restarted engine
( pants still OK at the moment though) ( lol)

It has been serviced regularly by the main dealer every 15000 kilometres, as per the handbook.
The auto trans fluid is at the correct level, and is still quite red in colour, with no burnt smell to it.
The auto trans fluid has not been changed, this is due at 90000 kilometres ( ie in 3000 kilometres time).
Is it possible that this fluid needs changing now?
I have asked an English speaking mechanic at an independent " other make dealership", who seems to think the auto trans box also has a filter that needs changing? Is this correct?

Sorry if a bit long winded, I've tried to find an answer here.

No filter on one of those(in America). It wouldn't hurt to change the fluid but when you go to the dealer tell them your story and that they should reset the adaptive transmission values. I'm guessing your check engine light is not on.

If you've changed your ATF ever 15k km, then it is not a fluid related issue. I would also think that with 15k maintenance intervals, the filter screens wouldn't have any wear in them either.

It has a filter. Whether it is serviceable or not is up to your mechanical skills.

Have the computer scanned. Vehicle speed sensor or other electronic gremlin could be the culprit.

Back flush the transmission cooler.

How are your tyres? Different size tread across the front wheels can affect the gearbox. Have you been to the dealer and had them scan for any codes? Not sure is disconnecting the battery will reset the TCM as it does the ECU.

I got some rare earth magnets and put them on the transmission drain plug for a week, then got the oil changed to a synthetic (at 45000km). There was no sign of any metal shavings. Kia Tech Info and HMA Service do not show any filter for the Gearbox (F4A42 is the model and is common across Sportage, Tucson, Optima, 2.4l Sonata and Tiburon
