Exclamation Long Time Sat ~ Kia Sephia ~ Help Please!

Hi!

Recently I Obtained for my Wife, a 2000 Sephia with Low Mileage, but it Sat for Very Long Time due to a Minor Crash it Had in the Upper Part of the Grille that Break the Radiator... I Believe it Sat for less than a Year... it Should Crashed a Small Thing like a High Trucks's Towing Ball or Something Alike.

I Already Changed the Engine's Head Gasket, Serviced the Valves, Poured New Fresh "Motul" Brand Oil 20W~50 and a Brand New Radiator and sparkplugs there.

The Car Started Right in the First Try and it Drives Awesome, But... it Blows a White Cloud of Smoke, especially While Engine is Still Cool Early Morning, and the Oil level seems to be Very Confusing for me; let me Explain:

I have Worked in Many Cars, Specially Subarus but this is my First time with a Kia... the Oil Level Dipstick Shows a "Half" in the Dipstick's Front Reading but it Shows very Overfilled in the Dipstick's Back!

So, How could I can Be Sure about the Oil's Current Level?

I Believe that the White Cloud is Due to a Stuck Piston Rings, the Oil Rings... So if So: Does anybody know a Safe Oil Additive that Could Help the Kia's 1.8L Engine to Move Freely Again?

Also: How many quarts of Oil does the Automatic Transmission Take?

Kind Regards.

hi
the white smoke - is it oily smoke? How does it smell?
It might be due to water (coolant) leaking into cylinders (but then you should see bubbles in coolant reservoir).
If it is oil smell - it might be simply from rings and pistons (did you replace them?) and another place is seals on valves (upper part).

Simply remove spark plugs and check them - one time after you see the smoke coming out, and then on the next day when it was cold.

How many km did you put on it after the repair?

And what actually means the oil level back? Are you referring to A/T oil? I do not think your car could have two oil level dipsticks.
If it is transmission oil (red in color) it will show you hog when engine is not running - engine must idle, transmission selector moved to all possible selections (P, R, N, D and so on - until the gear is engaged which usually takes around 1 second) and return to N. And then you can check oil level (either cold or hot). Remember about hand brake.

Thank you for your Kind Answer!

Well... First of all: Please excuse my English, I've Learned it Only by myself...

What I Tried to explain with the Oil Level Reading: I was Writing about the Engine's Oil Dipstick itself: when I pull it, in its Front it Shows Oil Mark Just Between F and L, but on its Back is comes Full of Oil up untill Half Dipstick, Far away above the F and I am Not Sure How to Understand this... All the Other Cars I've Repaired and the Ones I Own Shows the same Oil Level in the Front or in the Back of their Dipsticks...

Now I've Obtained the 2000 and the 2001 Sephia Owner's Manuals (Downloaded both in .pdf format) because the Car Didn't came with it; after some readin' it Says that to look more accurate the Engine's Oil Level, first Start the engine for a While and Then shut it off, let the Oil get Back to the Oil Pan (let it Rest some Minutes) and after all that, Pull the Dipstick. Well...

So, I Did that today and it Shows a Dipstick that Comes as I Already explained...

The White Smoke is Oily Smoke, I Believe that the Oil Rings are Stuck somehow, due to the Fact that the Car Sat unused for Long Time... it has only three Weeks since I Fixed it, I've Changed the Head Gasket, The Valve's Seals on Upper Part, Spark Plugs and Poured Fresh 20W~50 Oil (Motul Brand) on it, it Started like New since the First Try...

Do you Know Some Oil Additive that could Help to Free the Oil Rings?
Any Suggestion will be Very Wellcome.

Red face

Now the Car has a New Problem:

When I Stop it for a While, in example at a Red Traffic Light Semaphore; the Idle Slowly Drops to an "Almost Die" Level and then Accelerates to its Regular RPM's by itself ... Then Again the Idle Slowly Drops to an "Almost Die" Level but it Accelerates itself to the Normal RPM's again ... and So On ... it Keeps Doin' That all the Stopped Time at Idle...

It Takes ~ Three or Four Seconds from the Normal Idle RPM's Speed to the "Almost Die" RPM's but it Accelerates back to the Normal RPM's Speed Faster than a Second.

Also the "Check Engine" Light Came along this Behaviour...

Please, Could you Help me? ... I am in a Developing Country where is Not Easy and not Cheap to Find Someone who Has the Special Equipment that connects to the Car's Computer, So I Can not Obtain Any Codes; but if you Know Where I Can Start to Find the Cause of that Problem, I Will be Very Tankful with your Advice.

When the Car is Running the problem is Gone. The Engine Feels Very Fast & Strong, it Runs Great and Accelerates Extremly Fast! ... But even if the White Cloud of Smoke is Gone (Usually after ten Minutes or So of Driving), it Comes Again when I Accelerate Fast and Deep from Cruise Speed to the Full Gas Pedal in the Highway... it is a Smelly Cloud; but the Car Runs Absolutely Great

I am Confused... Could you Help me to Diagnose & Fix the Problem?

Kind Regards.

Thumbs up

Now that you have a manual for your car. empty the oil and refill only to the amount the manual says to use without a new filter.. You may have too much oil in the engine. The white smoke after the car sits for a while could be from overfull oil capacity. Some smooth dipsticks are very hard to read because they brush up against the side of the tube as you pull them out and smear the oil on them. The idle problem could be caused by a few things but start by making sure the vacuum hoses and inlet manifold are not leaking. Any air leaks will upset mixtures and idle. Best of luck.

Thank you for your Kind Advice; I'll Try to Drain all the Oil Out of my Sephia and then Fill Up to the Manual's Specs; I'll Post the Results.

I Already Checked for Vacuum Leaks and There is no Single one... Could it have a False Contact in Some Sensor?

Any other Idea will be Very Welcome!
Kind Regards.

Talking

Well... Followin' Your Advice, I Done This to my Kia:

Yesterday's Night, Just After Postin' my Last Message, I Went to the Car and Removed the Possitive (+) Terminal from the Battery, Then Manually Checked and Double Checked again for Loose Connections in ALL the Plugs and anything electrical I Found under the Hood.

Then Opened the Engine's Oil Cap and let the Engine Drain out all the Oil during All night Long... I Discovered this:

The Total Amount of Drained Oil Didn't Reach to the Full Gallon, I Didn't removed the Oil Filter so that Might explain it in Part but I was Expecting some More Oil because I Believed it was Overfilled... the Total amount Drained was just 3.2 US Quarts.

I Closed everything, re cap and then I Refilled the Engine with Fresh "Motul" 20W~50 Oil, just 3.5 US Quarts as the Manual Said (The Amount when Oil Filter is Not Removed) and Started the Engine, then I Drove it for Twenty Minutes.

After that, I Shut it Off and let it Rest for other Twenty Minutes in order to Let the Oil Go Down to the Oil Pan... then I Measured the Oil with the Dipstick.

But This Time Things Have Changed: Now the Dipstick came out Completely Clear to Read: it Came in the "F" of Full on Both Sides!

Also the "Check Engine" Light went Off and the Idle Dance too... now I Just want to see if the White Cloud of Smoke is Gone too...

Kind Regards.

Now just when it seems to be Everythin' OK with the Car... the "Check Engine" Light came ON Again!

Also I Discovered that the Trunk Becomes Very Hot around the Area where the Muffler Hangs... so when I Came Home from the SuperMarket, the Cheese did Melt I will check the Muffler Tonight.

Kind Regards.

muffler - you might be missing a shield between the muffler and the cars floor.
