What is on the door crimp?

This is my first KIA, 2019 Sorento LX V6 AWD and I live in Ontario Canada where we salt the roads in winter. By the door crimp, i mean the rolled metal edge at the bottom of the doors and lift gate. It seems KIA applied some kind of sealant over the edge and then painted over. I believe the sealant is there to protect the doors from collecting moisture but I question its longevity - I was able to make markings with finger nail like we would with un-dried wall paint. Has anyone noticed that on your Sorento or other KIA models? Has it been effective?

How about adding a picture or two?

What you're most likely seeing is the bead of bonding used between the inner and outer door skin, which is standard practice in the industry to paint over the excess bonding.

I will take some pics and update the post later today. It was my second post on the forum so I am still behind on these functions. Thanks.

Sorry for being slow to get these pics attached. The sealant beads are rough in places and where there are bumps, I can make a mark by pressing with finger nails. Should I be concern? Probably an early visit to the dealership is needed.

Don't worry about that. The seam sealant should have a small degree of elasticity to prevent it from cracking and allowing moisture to get into the seams.
There typically will be some variation in the application consistency of the sealant at the start/finish point of application.
