Aside from being able to use it in a rental vehicle I see no other good reason for owning one. And even then you could just use Google maps.

Because we have base model radios without AA or AC capability . Besides, I really need the larger 6" screen of the Garmin to be able to see detail properly, plus it does a good job with points of interest and let's me build a trip on my computer using Garmin Basecamp, then transfer it over and have all my stops, hotels, tours, etc. stored in the GPS and it then takes me day by day through the trip.

Dedicated GPS is much easier to use.

I have to agree, even thought I use both. My on-board GPS has a habit of telling me that some addresses don't exist, even though they have for a long time. On the other hand Google Maps traffic is hard to beat. I do have fits sometimes try to get Android Auto working. I have to unplug the cabled and plug it in again, sometimes several times. That is frustrating! There is no perfect solution. I'm lucky to have choices.

The stand-alone nav devices offer certain features that still aren't readily available in GM. Granted, not every user needs them, but it all depends upon your use model.
The only time I use GM + Android Auto is if for some reason I'm really out in the boonies and want the satellite view to figure out where unmapped roads may exist.

I don't have nav in my sorento. What i do is use a wireless charger that mounts to the vent. i mount my phone which charges and i launch WAZE to get my directions. the live update of the route based on traffic and other things happening around me have saved me many times from getting stuck in gridlock.
