I've never used Bosch so can't tell you how good or bad they are.

According to Walmart battfinder, the Everstart Platinum carries a 5-year free replacement warranty.

I like AGM because that's what came in the car (at least in 2018) and properly cared for, it's not unusual to get 5-7 years out of AGM (just never deep discharge them). If Bosch is selling an AGM for $106 after rebates with that free replacement period, it's a no brainer for me. Plus, AGM batteries can be shipped, lead acid cannot unless they are dry and then you get the enviable task of filling it with acid (NOT recommended). Heck, I don't even need one and am tempted to buy one at that price

Yeah thats what I thought and went ahead and picked up the battery from Pep Boys this evening. I have installed the new battery in the car but could not connected it because the moment I connect the negative terminal the cars starts blasting the anti theft alarm. I will try to figure it out tomorrow morning.

I replaced battery from Costco(= interstate) a couple of months ago and battery is most expensive one (just under $160 and 42 months warranty?) at Costco.

My local Costco does not seem to carry any battery for this car . Did you experience the same problem of the alarm firing off after installing the new battery. For me it does and it doesn't stop when I press any button on the smart key.

If it's an actual key, then just turn it to the ON position then back to OFF, and do that 5-10 times. If that doesn't make it stop, then change the battery in the fob.

If that doesn't work, then I would say your transmitter needs to be reprogrammed or replaced.

Also, try turning the key to the ON position and THEN reconnect the battery. That sometimes works too.

I have the keyless smart starter. It does have an emergency key to open the door though. So does it mean that any time the battery dies the key has to be replaced / reprogrammed? I would hate to go to the dealership for this as I was trying to do this on my own to avoid them. I will check with Pep Boys if they can handle this.

Pressing the start button without foot on the brake will put the ignition in the ON position without starting the engine.

Umm I think I knew that 🙂 but if the battery is not connected pressing the start button doesn’t do anything.

So I called up a few Kia service stations and only one was ready to discuss this over the phone. He gave me a couple of suggestions to try out.
He suggested I check an alarm switch that is near the hood release latch and also to use the key to lock unlock while alarm is going off. I think I have tried that one.
He did mention that a dead battery or a battery replacement shouldn’t need a transmitter reprogramming per se. But you never know, people have mentioned they had to do it. I hoping I don't have to...
