rear liftgate opened by itself--twice

So strange. I woke up this morning, went to get into my Sorento in my garage, and saw the rear liftgate was open. Thought that was odd--closed it, started the car, drove to work. When I arrived at work and shut off the engine, I heard the beeping, and saw the rear liftgate open.

Any ideas as to what's going on? Now I'm paranoid...may have to go outside on my break and make sure it's still closed..!

You mean the tailgate button got pressed accidentally?

That's the weird thing though...I've carried my fob around in my pocket for over a year now and this has never happened. Nothing's any different than it's ever been in terms of the fob or things that could press against the button.

It take a press and hold to open the lift gate though. Weird.

Try carrying the fob in a jacket pocket where it's by itself and not touching anything else, with the buttons facing outside for a few days. Just to test if it's the fob.

Might be worth a shot. Mine was in my front pants pocket when it kept going wonky. Again, has never happened once since I started leaving it out of my pocket, but happened several times while carrying it.

As the hatch button is evidently already hyper-sensitive to presses, one wouldn't think that putting something on top of it that could also be pressed would be of assistance in solving this.

The cover would have the opposite effect of what you're suggesting. It would take additional force to depress the button with a silicone layer on top of it. So, in the hypothetical fob in pocket situation, the chances of an accidental activation are lessened due to the additional pressure required to overcome the silicone layer.

This is all assuming that the core issue is an overly sensitive button.
