Rear lamp housing removal - 2019 SXL

Has anyone successfully removed the rear lamp housing on their 2019 SX+?

I've tried removing the housing as per the manual. Remove the interior trim piece, remove the two nuts, but the housing just will not pull towards the back of the car. Removing the two nuts definitely makes it feel loose, but it won't budge. I noticed a white plastic retainer clip deep in the frame where the end curve (to the front) of the housing would connect, but looks like it's not letting go.

Reason for doing this is to change the halogen turn signals to LED.

Ideas?

I've done it. Just pull harder. The two pins on the other side of the housing from the two bolts fit into plastic fittings that are pretty tight. Give it a good sharp yank straight back and it will pop loose. Before I put it back on, I put some silicone lube on the pins so it would be easier to remove for the next guy. Unless it breaks, I can't imagine ever having to remove it again.

Cheers!

What brand led did you use for turn signal?

I took it off because water was finding its way inside the housing and I wanted to see if I could fix it without spending any time at the local dealer. I think mine came with LEDs since it's an SX with touring package.

Ultimately, I decided to suck it up and let them replace the housing under warranty...wasting an entire morning sitting there waiting for a 2 minute repair.

Cheers!

I have the SXL. LEDs in the front, but incandescent in the rear for some reason. Hence why I want to replace them.

? Can you elaborate? Seems to me the rears are bright enough.

More of a cosmetic thing for me.

Managed to remove the housing. Like @2019Sorento noted, you have to really yank it toward yourself, but it does pop out. Disconnect the single harness connector to make replacing the bulb easier.

Attached are pics of the left (driver's) side 2019 Kia Sorento Tail Lamp Assembly, part number 92401-C6600. Note the two side marker LEDs. Some other world market Sorentos do not have these LEDs. The part is self contained, and except for the turn signal bulb, is not serviceable in any way. Luckily, it looks like the whole thing isn't terribly expensive if it has to be replaced after the warranty expires. Here's a link to one for sale for (July 2019) $325 USD.

The 2019 Sorento manual incorrectly lists the turn signal bulb as PY27W, but it is in fact P21 / 1156.
