I know they have a converter circuit on them (I'm sure there is an official name, just don't know it) and that's where the heat is generated but I still can't wrap my head around 2 watts creating that much heat (and light). When I have more time, going to measure the temps with my infrared thermometer and see how it compares to the stock bulbs (the rear cargo light maxed out at 151 degrees F) so in my mind, the LED's should be considerably less but then I see that big heat sink and realize I must be wrong
I didn't find them too bright for the map lights. The plastic cover does a good job defusing the light. I've had no complaints from family or other passengers. I love the white light they emit, much better than the yellow halogen tint.

I don't see how they could melt wiring.
Someone may have gotten some defective ones that overheated.
I tried numerous different bulbs, both store bought and online.
These are the ones that should have come with the car.
The originals gave me a headache. These are great.
But you could leave one bright one in place, and use a dimmer one on the other side. That way you can control if you need super bright or just a little light.

ok so yeah, they're... BRIGHT

I grabbed the same lights linked earlier from amazon for my 2016 Sorento (note: you want 31mm length).

And yeah, "holy crap are these bright". But now when I open the door the entire interior of the vehicle is actually illuminated.
