It used to be a thing for import dealers to replace the OEM batteries with cheaper ones when they took delivery of new cars. Then they would resell the take-offs at full price when customers needed batteries. Happened to a buddy of mine who bought a new Honda about 5 years ago. Brand new car and it had a Deka battery when he picked it up. He didn't know the difference. I only noticed when he was showing me his fancy VTEC engine because the ancestral family business used to carry Deka batteries when I was a teenager so I knew it wasn't the OEM part. Now I check when I pick up a new car.

You can use an old fashioned load tester on it to see if it's weak, but it will normally still pass one of those tests until it gets very close to the end of its life. Some of the newer chargers can actually run a special trickle cycle that "encourages" the battery to de-sulfate the cathode (or was it the anode...forgot) and sometimes extend the life. In theory, if you keep the electrolytes topped off and you periodically do the desulfation routine, they can last a pretty long time. Hard to do with modern sealed batteries though.

My battery died at about 2 years and 30,000 miles. I had a rough start one evening, then it wouldn’t start the next morning.

On the bright side Roadside assistance came in less than 10 minutes to jump me. It took a few hours for the dealership to install a fresh battery, which was covered by the warranty

I was lucky, got 6 years on the wife's 2012 OEM battery. Replaced with another OEM. Will see if I get close on this one.

You were lucky.... I thought battery is 3 years warranty same as electrical parts.

Kia told me 2 years on battery when it failed at 2 years and 4 months for me.

Interstate is Johnson Controls, who also makes Kirkland (And Walmart Everstart, and AutoZone Duramax, and others). Might be just a supply issue, they're all the same battery for the most part, and Johnson just sent over the Interstate labeled ones. I don't care what the warranty is, a Standard Lead Acid Battery will last 3-5 years if taken care of. The warranty game is marketing for the most part. In many cases a company sells a 2, 3, and 5 Year battery, and other than the sticker and the warranty, it's the same exact battery.

Hot and Colder areas usually hang in the 3 year range, mid temps will get you 5-6 years.

I've seen this issue where a porter leaves the lights on a car for a month, and kills a battery also. Dealer just pops what they have that'll fit in those cases. Deka/East Penn is a good battery manufacture (usually more on the industrial side). They make the Duracell batteries at Batteries Plus, and Sam's Club (it's weird since Johnson makes Wal-Mart's batteries). They're not considered "cheap" batteries by a long shot, along with Johnson Controls and Exide, they're the "big three" of industrial battery manufactures in the USA.

East Penn does in fact OEM a LOT of batteries though... I've seen their logo on many OEM batteries over the years. They're huge in Forklift batteries...
