2019 sorento ex: sound system

Guys,
need to get a suv and decided on sorento ex 2019 new one...
the oem sound system sucks and need to get the sound system upgraded.. I don't want to add package to get upgraded sound system

looking at not so expensive options.. I don't want to do it myself.. has o be done by someone

1) was talking to local installer, he quoted me $500 to replace oem speakers with better quality ones.. Can I go cheaper ? is it worth it ?
2) how easy is it to install sub woofer to ex ?

Please share your experiences.. I am in san diego, any referral would be appreciated,

I wouldn't spend any less than $500 on upgrading your speakers, assuming that price includes speakers and labor. With the speakers, it's going to be difficult to get great sound without spending some good money. Any experienced installer should have no trouble installing a sub. You will need a separate amp to power the sub, which will probably be fed by line input rather than a dedicated sub pre-out. I doubt the standard radio in the EX has a sub pre-out. The SX comes with a sub and an amp, so I assume you could mount your new equipment in those stock locations. Otherwise you're looking at a box or other custom enclosure that sits in your trunk. If you want great sound, don't cheap out on components. In the end, it might be worth getting the factory upgrade to the Harmon Kardon system (or at least a lot easier).

to get the Harmon kardon system, I need to get the the package which is $3500 extra... I don't need anything extra other than good speakers..
Thanks for your reply.

The return on investment in car audio diminishes very quickly. A couple hundred bucks on mid-tier speakers are going to be noticeably better than the stock ones if you've got a decent head unit to drive it. If you're keeping the factory head unit, I probably wouldn't bother. The juice isn't worth the squeeze.

In my opinion just upgrading your speakers is a band aid fix to getting better sound. You will be amazed at how much better your stock system speakers will sound if you add an amplifier. Amplification is what drives your speakers. Most basic head units have pretty crap built in amplification, especially lower grade ones. Most aftermarket head units offer around 50watts rms per channel (usually 4). A stock basic head unit is lucky to have 10-12. Ask a stereo shop to quote you for the cost of an external amplifier before you go fiddling with speakers. I say this from over 30 years experience with changing stereo units in cars I have owned. Just my 2 cents but I really think you are going down the wrong road to start if you just change your speakers and expect a massive difference.

I have the LX version also, and want to get better sound. Has anyone tried replacing just the amp as sick_em_rex says and can report on it?
