What Subscription?

We get this "Subscription Updated" screen twice a day. I doesn't time out, it has to be clicked away -- a PIA.

What is this and how do I get rid of it?

I've seen it only a couple times. I think it might be XM radio but I could be wrong.

I think I get that exact same message, but mine goes away after a few seconds by itself.


I am going to try and get a picture next time I get to drive the Sorrento.

You were right. It was the Sirius XM. I supposedly get a free trial I wasn't told about.

They were able to stop that nag from coming up but it's been replaced by another. I can't remember exactly right now but it has something to do with asking me to link my location history to something.

At the time of the original post, after many calls Sirus finally got it to go away. But, after a KIA software recall was installed about 3 weeks ago it has come back and now they claim they can't do anything about it.

Here's the current status


I called Sirus. I spent about 4-5 hours on the phone with them. I was moved around to different people (maybe 4). The last guy was supposed to be their "expert". He said it was in KIAs software and it was impossible for Sirus to do anything about it.

So I then called KIA. They transferred to their "expert" who continuously talked over me saying they were KIA motor company and KIA has nothing to do with Sirus whatever and thus can do nothing about it. While he incessantly talked over me I explained it began after a KIA recall for a software update. If KIA has absolutely no involvement, why did it begin immediately after KIA software update. I must have said that four or five time but since he was talking over most of the time I don't know if he ever heard it however he didn't answer the question and finally hung up on me.

I don't think there is anything more infuriating than having a problem you know is the fault of one of two companies and each points their finger at the other

Subscription updates come from Sirius/XM. Notifications of those updates are made known to the driver by the head unit firmware (which Kia did not write, by the way). My guess is that there's a job 'stuck' in the Sirius/XM server. As you noted, they were able to bring this under control the first time you experienced it. You might suggest that they review what occurred the last time you ran into this and verify that there is nothing similar going on now.

You don't mention what sort of software update you had performed on your Sorento. Unless it was an update to the head unit firmware, the update that was performed will have zero -- I repeat -- zero to do with your current problem, and the timing will be strictly coincidental. ECU software updates and the head unit are in completely different universes. Please be specific about the update.
