Although my Sorento is quieter than my previous 2014, I still would like to make it quieter, especially the engine and road noise on highways. I'm in the hunt for a pair of acoustics front door glass windows (Stock on SX models) to replace mine. I also found this product which appear to have good reviews at a reasonable price, has anyone installed this before?
I don't want to spend much, yet achieve some improvement. With a 50 sqft roll I should be able to make front and rear doors (few patches), trunk (bed and wheel wells) and floor (inner firewall area). As side note, I'm not installing super duper sound system at all, I just want to reduce a little the noise inside the cabin.
I used the B-Quiet Ultimate to line the cargo floor, rear quarters and lift gate on my 2013 RDX. In the end the road, suspension and wind noise were too much for me to stomach for a so called premium brand vehicle.
A drive in my brothers 2015 SX V6 pretty much convinced me to go and test drive the newly released 2016 SX turbo. Best decision I ever made as far as vehicle purchases go.
Your results may vary from my results with the product.
Thanks. Best seems to be Dynamax but it's ridiculously expensive. For that price I would expect 5-start reviews everywhere, yet I've seen mixed reviews. Will try one of the cheap ones if doesn't work out, that's it.
Agree, but when on highways I can tell the noise is caused by the wind hitting doors and floor (Chassis)....noise varies as wind blows or a car passes me.....Noise comes through the windows too, that I expect to address via glass windows replacement.
I've got to admire your dedication for making your Sorento exactly the way you want it. I have the SXL which has the sound deadening on front windshield and passenger / driver side windows. Makes a big difference in noise reduction. Did you ever get your paint for your fender situation resolved?
Thanks. No, customer rep replied that stripe was painted so no point getting that fender. It was the only available in NA. I'll put that off until I have the budget to have it fixed by the shop.
You guys have convinced me that buying the SX was the right choice.
I already have a project car that consumes a fair chunk of my time and money.[emoji4]
Actually I am learning a lot through your (and others) mods. I couldnt imagine doing the sound deadening mats (or even the insulation in the wheel wells). But it has given me the path to consider the two mods i had thought of while buying the SX - (a) eyebrows as DRLs and (b) side steps. i figured those were pie in the sky ideas - through your experience I know these are within reach

Anyway, if you can take sound meter readings before and after I'd be curious if the 1-2db claim holds up.
Oh, and to be "true" (or as close to it as possible) try to take the sound readings on the same road section. ie:
readings from home to work (same route) before and then do the same route again "after" the glass install.
I used splnfft for iOS, but you have to pay for it. I liked it because it would record min/max and average the values as well as record that info. My "free" Android app I had was real time only so you had to have someone else in the car with you to try to guesstimate what the average was.
Average is important because when I was test driving one of the Ford's, a very loud dump truck flew buy with it's jake brake on, making a loud farting noise that totally screwed the "max" value, but the average wasn't affected much at all. Whereas if I had the free Android app, it would've messed it up completely
Wow, i didn't know there was acoustic glass, i only have an LX... i must have terrible glass for acoustic purposes then.... i would have never guessed there was a difference in glass between models
I'm building a truck. It's been street legal for four years now and is still work in progress.
Currently working on interior. Started to cover the hard top in dynamat Xtreme. A partial covering made a big difference. Fully covered roof made it even better.
So I'm a fan of fully covering panels wherever possible.
