Question Has anyone installed the hood deflector?

I saw this and saw from some of the reviews on Amazon that you have to use some tape to keep the clips from scratching the paint. Has anyone had any experience with this deflector? If so, are you satisfied?

I just bought my 2017 SX last night, traded in a BMW 3 series that was too small and had too many electrical issues. I am very pleasantly surprised at how nice this vehicle is. Holds up to the BMW real well.

Thanks,
Tim

You'll get plenty of answers soon. Many members have got the deflector on their Sorentos.

Hi Tim,welcome to the Sorento family.I also am pleased with my purchase.Kia has come a long way.As for the the deflector,I have one but dealer install. Not sure about tape to keep clips from scratching,I can try and see if there is.Not sure if the one your talking about is the kia one or aftermarket.Apparently the Canadian version differs a bit from the USA version.Mine is on good and solid.Been thru the car wash a few times with no issues.Maybe post a pic of the one your refering to and maybe we can help you out.

@itguy61 this was your first post so likely a hyperlink was blocked and you wont be able to post pictures for sometime. try sending us the link but without the leading https://

sort of like amazon.ca/stuff/stuff2 hopefully the software will see it as plain text.like.this.

+1 on @Coolwhip 's answer. i have a Canada dealer installed deflector and it has withstood almost a year of driving.

It's not answering your question, but have you considered doing the 3M film on the hood?

That's what I went with because I don't personally like the look of the hood deflector.

Much more expensive I imagine though, in my case I did the entire front of the car with 3M (including headlights - which I didn't realize was possible).

The aftermarket AVS BugflectorII doesn't need paint protector strips. It mounts under the hood using 4 of the holes that the underhood weatherstrip mounts to, remove 4 of the factory fasteners, slip the Bugflector between the weatherstrip and the hood and use the supplied fasteners to mount the deflector. AVS supplies some plastic bumpers that they recommend applying to the hood between it and the deflector but I've never used them.

I recently installed a Yakima wind fairing and the same thing. it came with that transparent tape basically for extra protection in this case of the roof. not that it's a must.

Thanks for the answers! Looks like the tape is no big deal.

My third day with the car and I am really liking it. Very refined and smooth. Not missing the BMW, I am surprised by this. Pleasantly surprised!

Interesting thing with this KIA deflector is that I had to take it of to get the 3M film applied (complete front - bumper, hood, fenders, headlights, A pillars and mirrors).
The attachment 3M tape pads and 3M tape are one use. KIA sells a kit with just the pads and tape (and clips) for $25 to reinstall it.
Pretty cool.
