Third party tow hitch installation void any manufacturer's warranty?

Hey guys, I'm considering to install a tow hitch on my vehicle 2016 sorento. It will be installed by a third party (both parts and labor). I'm wondering whether this will affect/void any body warranty? Do I have to install Kia parts and install at Kia dealer?

With a brake controller?
Depending how they mess it up...

There was a case here on the forum where Sorento got on fire in a dealership, putting into flames the whole service dept along with 3 other cars (if I recall correctly).
The 30 Amp fuse was not installed and the wires from the battery shorted somehow causing the fire. It was done by some tow hitch company.

The bottom line is - If you use plug and play (no splicing) wiring to get lights in the trailer and your brake controller is correctly secured and connected - you should be fine. Hitch itself will not be a problem. Frame has the threads already, so you are good here.

I was concerned about this as well for my '16 Sedona. I actually bought the OEM hitch which came with the wiring harness, but had it installed by a third party. They did a great job and because the parts were OEM, there were instructions included and the fit was perfect. It may cost you a little more in the short term, but you will have long-term piece of mind.

there is no OEM hitch. kia & hyundai uses CURT hitches, as curt is known to be #1 .
the wiring on the other hand, can be OEM or aftermarket. the only option for an OEM harness is if your car came "pre-wired" from the factory. My LX for example did NOT. so i had to get an aftermarket plug & play kit from CURT as well.

you wont ruin your warranty, unless the install or the parts actually break something.

That is absolutely correct. The year before I purchased my 2016 KIA, I had order and installed a Curt hitch on my Ford Explorer. It took about 30 minutes and another 20 minutes to install the "plug-n-play" wiring. Prior to taking delivery of my KIA I had the dealer install the "tow package". it was the Curt hitch and plug-n-play wiring, except at twice the cost. I shouldn't have gotten in such a hurry and looked into it more.

It certainly will not effect your warranty.

The only Curt I found that that fit my '16 Sedona was the C13115 and it is most definitely not the same as the one I ordered from the Kia parts dealer. It is possible that Curt makes an unbranded modified version specifically for the vehicle, but there were some significant differences, like the size and arrangement of the safety chain attachments and the addition of a welded wiring mounting bracket.

Could be a different situation for the Sorento, of course.

dealerships are private businesses that are allowed to sell a specific new car. that same dealership can sell any aftermarket part they chose along with OEM parts and OEM spec'd parts. that means they could have ordered a different brand and installed it. the only thing the brand would cover warranty wise, is the install - not the part. that goes for things such as remote starts(most are aftermarket, installed by a 3rd party. same goes for tint, vinyl, engine performance parts, painting, etc.

curt doesnt sell "unbranded modified versions" to dealerships. a dealer installs a curt, and its labeled as curt.

Since you revived a necro thread, I'll ask a relevant question: What is the consensus on which aftermarket hitch is the best quality? Curt or Draw-tite?

OK, I just took delivery of my 2019 EX Sorento yesterday. I don't have the first clue as to what I need to have towing capability added to my Kia. Could someone kindly break it down for me?
