Cruise control SET

From time to time, the CRUISE button does activate, but then the SET button would be irresponsive. THen I tap (once or twice, but convincingly) the underside of the steering column...and it comes OK. ANyone else with this symtom ?

Bought in Oct 2016 at 55000km, now (Apr 2019) at 73000 km. I like cars...

Nope, cruise control has been a non issue. Could be a lose wire or maybe something sticky got into the cracks? Try cleaning it with a toothpick or edge of a card if you have to press hard for it to activate.

Yeah..Loose wire or brush contact ..will check the shop manual to verify accessibility.
.the button itself is definitely not the culprit. When it works, barely presing it will activate.

EDIT: well...after a search in the service manual, I found the diagram and in fact all commands go through the same path....only the resistance value (hence voltage alue delivered) differ. SO, the CRUISE ON command works, but not the SET (at times) ...while it goes through the same electrical path. ... so it is possible one resistance contact is almost broken, making contact at times, and not , sometimes...and the vibration I induce with tapping the steering does make the contact..at least at this time. Maybe this will not work eternally....

REEDIT: WELL..no, in fact the CRUISE command goes through the whole resistor path (180+150+220+330 ohms) containing SET (180+150)....so only the path going stricly to the SET button is the culprit, wires, contacts and the button itself.

I would have to remove the airbag to access the interior of the steering wheel where values can be measured on a connector strip....but I will wait until this becomes absolutely necessary...

Yeah..but it is different. It is normal that a CEL inhibits cruise. AND remember, my CRUISE button does activate and the CRUISE sign shows. YOUrs did not, I'm sure.

I have no CEL and all the rest is OK.

Purely "electrical" and within the steering wheel.

By the way, what is your mileage ?

ANd also by the way...after nine months I have the car, I "discovered" the "face" button.....that (after questioning)) ..I learned was the "voice command " button.....Pure gadget....will never use that. Does someone ?

I could activate cruise (at least it said so on my gauge), but the set button did not do anything. That how it started prior to seeing the transmission pictorial.

Not sure if what follows would verify all the time....but i NOTICED THAT if I run (with or without Cruise in operation)..then I stop..like for road works, then turn the ENgine OFF for waiting but keeping the keY ON instruments...to keep radio ON...then restart from there, SEt would not activate. If I turn the ey completely to OFF....then restart from there, SET WILL WORK. I tried that a few times, and it worked every time.
Will keep verifying if what i SAID HERE IS ALWAYS true.

EDIT: in view of Hudsoner experience, another factor can be involved: keping the key to instruments , I can leave the shifter in neutral.....but to turn the key to OFF, I have to shift to PARK. ( mine uses a REAL metal key) This may involve the transmission position sensor.....but I cannot , at this mooment, confirm that I did not shift to PARK each time when keeping the key on instrument...so the matter is still subject to investigation.....
