2013 Sorento Alternator pulley replacement

Has anyone tried replacing the Alternator decoupler clutch pulley. Mine started to come out and shredded my serpentine belt. Good thing the belt was not cut while I was driving.
Attached is the photo.

Here is a link to the info you are looking for: https://kia.oemdtc.com/251/alternato...13-kia-sorento

Here is a link to the Kia removal tool for the pulley: https://kiaspecialtools.com/Catalog/Product/09373-27000

Now form reading the info it looks like if you have a T-50 Torx bit, a impact air gun and can hold on to the outside of the pulley, you should be able to remove the pulley without the Kia special tool.

Thanks a lot!
My biggest issue is removing the alternator. It is in between the power steering pump and the AC.
I wonder if you have the infor on this. Thr one on the link is not tye same as the engine setup that I have.

Appreciate it boss.
Only issue is I have different engine compared to the picture. Also it didn't discuss whether to remove the Alternator or not. If it's going to be removed, how? If not, how to move the pulley on around 2 clearance.

"3. Remove the alternator (A) from the vehicle.
Refer to the following section on KGIS for removal information:"

You must have missed this part chief.

Here is link to the KIA TSB that was also in that article: https://static.oemdtc.com/TSB/2012-126.pdf

You wanted know how to get the pulley off the alternator and this tells you how to do that. It also shows you what tools KIA has for the removal.

Dang it!
Thanks for pointing it out.
I saw a video of someone removing the alternator on the same model and it was a pain.
I wonder if there is a document regarding the right removal process.

Here is a link to the removal of the alt: Kia Sorento: Alternator Removal - Charging System - Engine Electrical System - Kia Sorento XM 2011-2019 Service Manual

It is the only info that I have found for the Sorento that is free on line. It is info from KIA and is only for the 2.4L engine but much of it can be applied to the V-6 also. If you click around on that page, you will work your way to the main index with full KIA service info for the vehicle. The TSB (technical service bulletin) that I link you to up above is for the 2013 2.4L, which is what you have listed in your vehicle information to the left of the forum page, although I could be wrong because my memory is not what it use to be. As for the picture in the TSB, sometimes a manufacture will use a generic picture as an example so you kind of have to fill in the blanks as you go. TSB are not a step by step, as the bulletins are written for the service mechanic and not for the DIY person.

Found this on youtube for the 2.4L engine:

Looks like it's a big DIY project or it might be something left to a mechanic.

I thought it would be easier for the 2.4L than the 3.5L v6 but it doesn't appear so.

Looks like the alternator is just in front of the frame making it difficult to remove the bolts that hold it in place.

If you do this yourself, you may just want to replace the entire alternator. It may be cheaper than having the pulley replaced due to the additional labour costs.

If you did want to replace the pulley, you may want to look up a local alternator shop that will do it for you. They would have the pulley or could get it cheaper than you and definitely have to tools and be able replace it quickly and relatively inexpensive to going through the dealer. Or, buy the newer pulley as per the TSB and have the alternator shop replace it for you.

Yup. It's a real PITA to reach in and do it. My mechanic did it from the top on the shop's driveway because the garage was full tha day. He loosened and moved the coolant reservoir, power steering fluid tank and the strut mounting nuts on top to make some room to get in. The srut nuts removal was an odd thing for me to see but he was able to make a little room to work doing that. Took him maybe 45 minto install because he had to get in position, get the bolts in, adjust the belt then tighten.
