Couple of questions

Hi, I'm just wondering what you guys are showing on the odometer. For my sake, I'm wondering what could and will happen as the vehicle gets up in mileage. My 2005 Sorento is at 169,000 miles and except for a timing belt change and tune ups, etc. Everything else is original. What should I look for in the future to have to replace/repair with high mileage usage? Right now it is running perfect, no problems. Also, I am having trouble with the auto door locks. They lock at will and whenever they feel like it. Pretty frustrating when you have an armload of stuff! I have changed the power door lock relay assembly and removed the aftermarket alarm to no avail. I'm hoping it's not the etacs causing it, because it happens only every so often. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Joe

You have changed the belt every 60,000 miles right??
If not you are asking for a major engine problem when the belt goes.

If you have not looked into this...

give it a look see. My 03 had a problem and it turned out after a long search to be the diode.

Engine and transmission.. those are the 2 things you don't want to have to repair.

If that transmission fluid is original, you should do about 4 drain-and-fills to get it out of there. That's something that will break down soon if you don't change it. Same with the gear oil.

When's the last time the coolant was changed? Or the brake fluid?

The diode only controls the dome lamps, I am having trouble with the door locks! T/belt has been changed, still is nice and soft.

All fluids changed religiously, switched complete car over to Royal Purple products when I bought it. A/trans, engine. p/steering, both diffs, etc. Expensive, but worth it. Coolant every year, regardless of mileage. It runs like a nose, just wondering about potential future problems.

I don't know what your religion specifies for fluid change intervals, but sounds like you're good to go :P

Just read all the service bulletins then.. that's your best best to find out about expected issues that aren't due to lack of maintenance.

This time of year, when my nose starts to run, it is hard to stop. Not a good recommendation for a 2 ton missile.

Service intervals

Hi, again. My service intervals are: Oil 3500-5000 miles. Rear and front diffs. 60,000 miles. Trans, every 50,000 miles.P/steering once a year. According to Royal Purple, their service intervals are approx. 3 times the mileage the factory recommends. It cost more to buy it, but it saves money in the long run on labor, etc. Also, anybody have any ideas on my door lock problem? Getting pretty frustrated. Joe

Can you be more specific about your Door Lock issue?

If I unlock my doors and then I do not open the door ( within 30 seconds ? ) the doors will automatically re-lock.
That action can be aggravating.
I am told, this is normal.

What are your door lock / unlock menu settings?

I'd start doing the transmission fluid every 15-20k. These have no serviceable filter, so the only thing you can do is take out the magnetic drain plug and clean it often. The fluid itself will be chemically fine, but there's nothing else you can do to remove the small metal shavings. And you can't prevent them from being created because that's how ATF's work.. they slip a little bit all the time, you just don't notice it until things get worn down enough. The less of those shavings roaming around inside there, the slower they'll build up to a sludge and create problems.

As for the locks.. sounds like BCM is failing. That's what has the switches for all the actuators. The BCM is something that is known to fail sometimes, but I don't know how to inspect it.. I would assume you need some hella expensive diagnostic tool for that.
