Only a single (dual-function) pump on the Sorento - mechanically driven off the timing gear. The common rail pressure is very high == 1600 BAR or thereabouts (You don't mess with it). Pressure sensor on top of rail and a release valve on the end to dump excess back into the fuel system.

@yachtmustang = Do you by any chance have a powerbox of any type fitted? They attach where the rail pressure sensor fits and modify the readings back to the ecu. So a failure there might cause the issue you have.

If the vehicle does not have a lift pump, it relies on suction to draw fuel, so either you have a leak between the pump and fuel cell (breaking suction/air), or a fuel line is collapsing internally and cutting flow (you wont see this externally)..

Hi. Sounds good for the leak-back test. That was my next port of call. I figured if an injector was getting stuck or leaking that could cause a dramatic fall in the rail pressure and trigger the failure. And BTW I don't have a powerbox on rail bar so injector is probably best place for next investigation.

Thx for the help
