My old '82 Toyota supra inline-6 was rated at 145 hp. My Sedona has nearly double, and my Cadenza has more than double (@ 293). We've come a long way, baby.
Many definitely had more but: "For the U.S. market the 1980 Ferrari 308's transversely mid-mounted 2.9-liter aluminum V8 saw output drop from 237 horsepower down to 214 HP, in the name of improving emissions."
1987 Lotus Esprit Turbo: 215 hp
1980 BMW M1: 274 hp
My first car had 85 hp but got low-30s mpg... (and now safety stuff whatsoever).
Amazing.
Went looking for a car for my daughter: so many cute ones, old bugs, old volvo sports cars, etc., etc. NO safety innovations that can compare with all the carp in the Sedona. My brother in law gave her a 2002 Volvo S60, an entry-level luxury sports sedan. The Sedona is *worlds* better (of course, so is any modern Volvo or pretty much any other car, but still).
